1. Who does Ares first appear to in this episode?

Answer: General Kirilus

Ares fades in and tells General Kirilus that it's time for him to move on because he has found a replacement (Xena) for him. This makes General Kirilus want to kill Xena. After some more conversation, Ares fades out again. (Lord Talmadeus isn't in this episode, and Tarkus isn't a general).

2. Who does the old warrior that Xena saves at the beginning of this episode say he is?

Answer: her father

He is trying to save the girls from Lotia who are to be sold as slaves. Xena saves him, and he says he would have been successful if she hadn't interfered.

3. What does Xena say when Gabrielle asks if Atrius is her father?

Answer: "Give me a break!"

Xena bandages Atrius' wounded arm, then she and Gabrielle go to rescue the girls from Lotia.

4. Who does General Kirilus recruit to kill Xena?

Ares tells General Kirilus that Xena is after his command. General Kirilus says he'll never take orders from Xena, and Ares says he won't have to because he'll be dead.

Xena beats him up, then takes command of his army. After Xena and her new army ride off, General Kirilus finds out that Ares was only using him to make sure that Xena would ride at the front of his army. It was all part of Ares' plan to get Xena back.

Xena's reaction, upon seeing what happened to Atrius while she was gone, was to order her new army to take the village.

Gabrielle stands up to Xena and tries to stop her. Xena throws her aside, and Gabrielle tries to hit Xena across the back with a stick, which breaks upon contact with Xena's back.

Xena realizes that it's really Ares when Atrius asks where Xena's anger is and tells her to fight for him. When she speaks his name, he reveals himself and continues to try to win her back.
