Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the game "2048", what is the color of the 64 tile?

Answer: red

The 64 tile is the highest-numbered tile that is not yellow. The 128 and higher tiles are yellow (up to 2048). The yellow tiles are slightly different shades of yellow (for example, 128 is lighter yellow than the others), but it is a very minor difference.
2. What is the chance of a "4" tile appearing randomly instead of a "2" tile?

Answer: 1 in 10

Sometimes, you will find that you lose because a 4 appears instead of a 2. Other times, you would have lost if a 2 appeared, but because a 4 appeared, the game continued.
3. Which of these is impossible in the game "2048"?

Answer: Having a score of 1337

All scores are multiples of 2, so a score of 1337 is impossible. A 16384 tile is possible, but you must be very good (and lucky) to get it. Moving left 20 times in a row is possible if the tiles appear in certain spots. The game has a 1% chance of starting with two 4 tiles, as each tile has a 10% chance of being a 4, so it is possible, but rare.
4. What is the maximum number of "2" tiles that can be on the board at one time?

Answer: 9

If any more than eight "2" tiles are on the board at any one time, they would combine. The ninth 2 tile is the one that comes up almost every turn (I say "almost" because sometimes it's a 4).
5. What is the lowest tile that glows when you create it?

Answer: 256

The 256, 512, 1024, and 2048 tiles glow when created. Even though the 128 is yellow, it does not glow when you create it. The glow lasts until you make your next move.
6. If the top row has 4-2-2-2, and you move left, what will it become (assuming that a new tile does not appear in the top row)?

Answer: 4-4-2-blank

If there are 3 identical tiles in a row, and you move left, the leftmost two tiles will combine. If you move down, the bottommost two tiles will combine, and so on. If a row or column has 4 identical tiles, they combine in pairs to form two tiles. For example, 4-4-4-4 would become 8-8-blank-blank.
7. If you manage to get a 4096 tile in the online version, what color is it?

Answer: Black

If you get that far in the game, you are doing extremely well. If you manage to get even further in the game, the higher tiles will still be black. The game cannot continue infinitely, though, even with perfect strategy and perfect luck.
8. If you combine two "64" tiles, you get a 128 tile. How many points do you get for doing that?

Answer: 128

The number of points gained is always the same as the tile created. Because of this, scores are always powers of 2.
9. When the board is filled in "2048", what does it say in large letters?

Answer: Game over!

"Try again" is a button that you press to restart the game. You can also a "tweet" or email your score at the game over screen and challenge your friends.
10. What is the lowest-numbered tile where the number (not the background) is white?

Answer: 8

The "2" and "4" tiles have a black number on a light-colored background (white for 2, tan for 4), while all tiles 8 and higher have a white number. This makes sense for the darker tiles, especially the red 64 tile. However, the yellow tiles also have white numbers, even though yellow is a light color.
