"Kirby Air Ride": Know Your Basics! Quiz

This 2003 racing game appears on the Gamecube! It is the first "Kirby" game to be about racing and has a lot of unique modes that you will answer about in the upcoming questions. Each mode has a set of mission goals that you try complete to unlock new vehicles, sound tests, and characters.

In "Air Ride", you race against opponents on a chosen course. This mode is more 3D. In Top Ride, you race against opponents on a chosen course, but the view is from above and you only have two vehicle choices. In City Trial, you try to power up your vehicle as best you can, while ripping on opponents and preventing them from powering up.

Free Ride is a sub-mode found in all three main game modes.

Waddle Dee does appear in this game, but only as an NPC that you can swallow and puke at your opponents. Kirby is obviously the main character of this game and can be used in all game modes. King Dedede rides upon a giant motorcycle and can smash players with his hammer. Meta Knight flies with his wings and slashes anyone that gets too close. Both Meta Knight and Dedede cannot be used in Topride.

You can take a rail to ride from station to station. Also, if you go to the Volcano station, you have an option of taking a rail directly into the volcano. This will spit you up onto a high floating platform.

In Air Ride, the health bar is optional, but still there none the less. If you lose all your health, you forfeit the race. In City Trial, you always have a health bar. However, if you lose all your health, you just plop off your vehicle and can go find a new one.

Though you do not start off with the Formula Star nor the Warp Star, you can still find both lying around somewhere sometimes. A helpful thing to do is to jump off the Compact Star at the beginning and see which vehicles are close by. If you end a city trial with no vehicle, you will automatically be placed into the formula star for the Stadium Event.

The heavier you are, the more damage you do when you collide with another vehicle. The more top speed you have, the faster you go. The more charge you have, the faster you can boost.

The vehicle that gains a boost whenever it leaves the ground is the Jet Star. The Winged Star has a higher top speed in the air as opposed to the ground. The Shadow Star has the fastest speed when it comes to drafting off another vehicle. The Rocket Star has a very long charge, but will boost you very far.
