Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the original "Metal Gear," which of these characters is responsible for providing Snake access to the rocket launcher?

Answer: Jennifer

In order to advance in the game, Solid Snake must defeat the Arnolds in Building 2. The enigmatic "Jennifer" calls Snake directly with a key to open a door to the room containing the needed weapon. The conversation is short and sweet and quite forgettable.
2. Eva is one of the most unforgettable "femme fatales" in the "Metal Gear Solid" series, and she's been known by a number of aliases. Which of these, however, has never been one?

Answer: Eve

As seductive as she was, Eva was never known by the alias of "Eve," although she refers to the story of Eve through a tape recording at the end of "Metal Gear Solid 3." ("It was Eve who tempted the snake in the Garden of Eden.") She labels herself as "Cynthia" and "Tanya" throughout "Metal Gear Solid 3," and is known as Matka Pluku (Big Mama) in her older years in "Metal Gear Solid 4."
3. In "Metal Gear Solid 4," Solid Snake engages and eventually defeats Laughing Octopus, revealing the true "beauty" within. Drebin tells Snake that she is probably "no older than 19" and from a fishing village in what country?

Answer: Scandinavia

Laughing Beauty met her torment in Scandinavia, mentally scarred after having seen her entire village assassinated in cold blood. Hideo Kojima said in an IGN interview that Laughing Beauty was his favorite of the four beauties.
4. In "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker," we were introduced to a mysterious, yet fascinating character by the name of Dr. Strangelove. She made her presence known, yet left her character fairly enigmatic throughout the game. From what we do know, which of these facts are FALSE about Strangelove?

Answer: She worked for the CIA

As her name implies, Strangelove is bisexual, and her sexuality was actually emphasized during a briefing between herself and Big Boss. She elaborated on personal baths she had given to Cécile while "admiring her beauty." She and The Boss were also once lovers telling Big Boss of her kind soul. Strangelove's pale skin is a result of her albinism, necessitating the red coat and sunglasses wherever she goes.

Although she did mention her affiliations with NASA and ARPA, never once was did she mention an affiliation with the CIA. We can only hope to learn more about her in later games.
5. Which of these classic characters never made an appearance in "Metal Gear Solid 2?"

Answer: Campbell

It was Roy Campbell that technically never made an appearance in "Metal Gear Solid 2." Near the end of the game, Raiden learns that he has been communicating with the Arsenal Gear's AI, realizing that he "has never met the man, face to face." Even though for the majority of the game, "Rosemary" was another form of the Arsenal AI, the real Rosemary does make a brief appearance during the last cut scene of the game. "See me for who I am, okay?" Though short, Otacon makes an appearance with Snake as he pilots the Kasatka just before the fight with the Harrier.
6. In "Metal Gear Solid 3," Snake finds out the hard way that Para Medic is a huge movie buff, telling the plot of several dozen movies throughout the game via Codec. Which of these movies, though, does she never mention?

Answer: "007"

We find out that Major Zero is a huge James Bond fan and Para Medic not so much! In fact, Para Medic warns Snake "not to get the Major started with 007."
7. Which of these characters has never been a support character on the Codec (prior to "Metal Gear Solid 5")?

Answer: Ocelot

The Boss served briefly as a Codec character during the Virtuous Mission in "Metal Gear Solid 3," primarily briefing Snake on the importance of camouflage. Kaz (Miller) is of course is a valuable support throughout "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker," and most often forgotten in "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake" as "McDonnell Miller." Big Boss is your commanding officer in the original "Metal Gear" before he turns traitor.

It's ironic that Ocelot whom we've grown to love throughout the series, was never once a supporting character.
8. In the original masterpiece ("Metal Gear Solid 1"), which member of Foxhound does Snake fight only once?

Answer: Psycho Mantis

Whereas the other bosses in "Metal Gear Solid" are met at least twice, Psycho Mantis has the distinction of being the only Foxhound member that is fought only once in the entire game -- in the Commander's Room. Sniper Wolf is fought twice, once in the Communications Tower and the Snowfield. Vulcan Raven is defeated once in the M1 tank and again in the Underground Warehouse. Revolver Ocelot is technically fought twice too, once in the B2 Armory and during the torture session. Of course, Liquid Snake is fought four times -- in the Hind D, inside Metal Gear Rex, hand-to-hand on top of Rex, and during the final jeep chase.
9. Looking back at all the games in the series (from the beginning up to "Metal Gear Solid 5"), which of these characters has never been responsible for saving data?

Answer: Naomi Hunter

This fourth wall-type quirk of the "Metal Gear Solid" series was not only important, but highly entertaining! Every "sava data" character was unique in that after the save, they responded with some light-hearted humor for the game. Mei Ling's memorable quotes livened the dark setting of "Metal Gear Solid." Otacon saved Snake's progress during the Tanker in "Metal Gear Solid 2." Rosemary served two games, saving Raiden's progress during the Plant in "Metal Gear Solid 2" and Snake's progress in "Metal Gear Solid 4." Naomi, although memorable, was an intermittent support in the original masterpiece shared by Roy Campbell.
10. In "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake," Solid Snake bested what character that originally helped him in "Metal Gear?"

Answer: Kyle Schneider

Kyle Schneider served as a sort of a supplier of intel and as a navigator during the original "Metal Gear." He made a shocking surprise in "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake" as the first boss of the game named "Black Ninja," a result of human experimentation. Drago Petrovich Madnar never made an appearance in the original "Metal Gear," nor did McDonnell Miller.

The first and only appearance of Fire Trooper was in "Metal Gear" as the fourth boss of the game.
