If you're going for the 100-Coin Star in this level, be sure to get these Blue Coins and the Koopa Shell. With the Koopa Shell, you can ride over the lava and collect the hard-to-reach coins. Don't enter the volcano for coins until you've cleaned up everything outside because you can't escape the volcano without picking up a star inside.

On order to obtain a star, Mario needs to climb to the top of all four pillars. Once this is done, the top of the pyramid will shoot off, and you can fall inside.
