Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character ultimately erupts his opponent's upper body from the inside out with a giant ball of acid?

Answer: Reptile

Called "Weight Loss," this fatality involves Reptile turning invisible, then quickly slashing his opponent's neck and torso with his claws. He soon reappears with a sickly green acid ball that he plunges into the gash he made in the opponent's stomach, turning around and covering his face as the opponent implodes into a colorful mess of green and red.

Stryker also makes his opponent explode but with a different method.
2. How many fatalities need to be specifically executed at fullscreen distance?

Answer: Three

Surprisingly, out of the huge amount of fatalities this game has, only three are required to be inputted at fullscreen. (This means that you must be as far away from your opponent as possible, so that the entire screen is showing.)

Jade has one fullscreen fatality, named "Head-A-Rang"; the other two belong to Sektor, named "Robo-Sek" and "The Scarecrow."
3. Which female character actually skins her opponent alive with her bare hands?

Answer: Sheeva

After snapping her knuckles, Sheeva grabs her opponent by the chest and shoulders and focuses all her energy on ripping off every last inch of skin (or metal) from the opponent's body.

Fun fact: the skin Sheeva rips off always acts like a flimsy rubber suit in her hands after she's done with her fatality. This is an amusing fatality to perform on characters like Cyrax, Sektor, and Cyber Sub-Zero, as their pure metal exteriors flop around like elastic.
4. Who is the only character who retains his original fatality from the very first "Mortal Kombat" game (excluding DLC fatalities)?

Answer: Kano

Kano retains a practically perfect replica of his fatality from the original Mortal Kombat--plunging his fist into the opponent's chest to rip out his or her heart. The only minor difference is that Kano turns the opponent around to face away from him. Kano also visibly crushes his opponent's heart in his hand before lifting it above his head. (In the original "Mortal Kombat," it is not discernible if Kano crushes the opponent's heart, although he still lifts the heart above his head.)

Johnny Cage has a fatality partially identical to his original fatality--punching his opponent's head off; however, he also rips his opponent's torso off, which makes his newer fatality differ from the original.

Liu Kang also retains a similar version of his original fatality (a cartwheel uppercut), but it is instead used as his X-Ray attack in this game.
5. Which of the following is NOT a distance you have to be at to perform a fatality?

Answer: Close

In the move list, all characters either perform their fatalities at touching, sweep, jump, or fullscreen distance. Stage fatalities say their distance varies, when in reality, all stage fatalities must be performed at touching distance and can only be performed on certain stages.

Babalities are also always performed at sweep distance or further (despite saying jump distance).
6. Which character has a fatality called "Razor's Edge"?

Answer: Kung Lao

"Razor's Edge" is a gory fatality where Kung Lao kicks the opponent down onto his or her back, then throws his razor-laced hat onto the ground, between his opponent's legs, as it begins to spin like a table saw. Kung Lao grabs the opponent's ankles and begins to drag him or her through the hat from the crotch up--all the way to the head--sawing the opponent in half and lifting up both halves of the body with pride.

It would be possible for Kenshi, Scorpion, and Kabal to have fatalities named "Razor's Edge," though, as some of their fatalities include using sharp blades to dismember their opponents.
7. What does Mileena NOT do during her "Be Mine" fatality?

Answer: Kiss her opponent's forehead

Mileena starts off by throwing two sai into her opponent's chest. She then proceeds to walk over and caress the cheek of her opponent sensually before ripping the head right off and gnawing on it--and after throwing it to the ground, she slides her hands down the curves of her body while soaked in blood.

Her second fatality, "Rip Off," is partially similar to "Be Mine" as it involves her throwing two sai and finishing her opponent off in a sensual manner.
8. The fatality button input of "forward, down, forward, Y" belongs to who?

Answer: Scorpion

This fatality must be executed at touching distance and involves Scorpion unsheathing one of the two swords mounted on his back, cutting the opponent's torso in half, decapitating the opponent, kicking the opponent in the chest, and then slicing the opponent's decapitated head in half. This fatality is named "Split Decision."

Sub-Zero also shares a fatality with the same button input--a DLC fatality (recreating his original fatality from the first "Mortal Kombat" game) named "Spine Rip," which is performed at sweep distance.
9. What is the button input for Shang Tsung's "Bang Bang!" fatality?

Answer: "Back, down, forward, A"

The "Bang Bang!" fatality involves Shang Tsung shapeshifting into a horrific clown who aims a gun at the opponent's head. Upon pulling the trigger, however, confetti and a small rod with a banner that says, "BANG!" pops out. Shang Tsung, in clown form, laughs hysterically and hops around before pulling out a loaded magnum, blowing the opponent's head right off. He then takes a bow.

This fatality is actually the same exact (albeit uncensored) fatality that the Joker performs in the crossover fighting game, "Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe." The fatality in that game was forced to be censored due to its violent content. However, in "Mortal Kombat," it is shown in all its gory glory.

In the Fatality Trainer, a message (in regards to the "Bang Bang!" fatality) states that "Shang Tsung has picked up a few tricks from previous opponents." This refers to the fact that both Shang Tsung and the Joker appear in "Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe" and implies that Shang Tsung adapted the Joker's fatality into his repertoire.

The "down, down, back, down, Y" input is Shang Tsung's "Identity Theft" fatality. The "forward, down, back, A" input is Shang Tsung's Soul Steal special move. The "back, back, down, forward, Y" input is Smoke's "Tremor" fatality.
10. How many characters decapitate their opponent during their fatality, leaving their opponent's whole head intact when finished? (Note: Stage fatalities do not count; DLC fatalities DO count.)

Answer: Nineteen

The following characters decapitate their opponent while leaving his or her head intact: Kung Lao, Sub-Zero, Reptile, Kitana, Johnny Cage, Jade, Mileena, Nightwolf, Cyrax, Sektor, Sonya Blade, Jax, Kano, Shang Tsung, Baraka, Kabal, Quan Chi, and Rain.

Jade is the only character who has TWO fatalities that decapitate an opponent while leaving their head intact; every other character has just one.

Other characters have fatalities that decapitate an opponent but do not leave the head intact at the end. An example is one of Scorpion's fatalities, "Split Decision," which decapitates the opponent but then halves the opponent's head in two, thus not leaving it intact.
