"Xenosaga Episode 1: Der Wille Zur Macht" Ch. 1 Quiz

It turns out that what these people are looking for has something to do with a rectangular shape pressed into the ground. Dr. Masuda places an object that he has in his possession into the hole in the ground. Lines reaching out from the rectangular shape begin to glow blue, and the whole digging site goes into chaos as the ground begins to tremble. From under the water, a giant gold block-like thing stretches to the sky, the blue lines leading to it over pillars that had come up out of the water.

The gold block launches some sort of beam into the sky, and the scene ends, as action moves years into the future.

This scene takes place in space, with the gold object floating through the empty darkness. Then the scene shifts to an airship (in outer space) where the important characters Shion and Allen, and later Kos-Mos and Commander Cherenkov, are introduced. Shortly after this scene, gameplay begins in virtual reality.

Shion and Kevin are talking about what he should say to KOS-MOS when they finally "wake her up". The circumstances that she does wake up in are not pleasant at all, and no one gets a chance to tell her "Good morning".

The data that she had forgotten was supposed to be the final field data for KOS-MOS, but Vector Facilities had gotten a little behind and did not have the complete data yet. As Allen is giving her the disk, Shion has a strange vision of a little girl with orange hair, which she continues to see in other areas of the game.

These are basically machines like KOS-MOS, used for combat to protect the crew that they were created for. KOS-MOS may be a machine, but you will soon see that she is much, much different then she seems.

The Zohar begins to play an important role in "Xenosaga", as you can probably tell because the first scene revolved around how it was discovered. Another thing worth mentioning: A person in space that touched the Zohar mysteriously disappeared.
Note: The Zohar is on the ship that Shion is currently living in.

Sector 3 is where KOS-MOS's storage unit is, and no one "woke her up"! Heck breaks loose when Gnosis' (kind of like ghosts) attack the ship, and the A.G.W.S units are having major problems with holding the hoards of them back.

With the A.G.W.S units pretty much gone, what hope was there for the huge crew? Why don't you guess? You got it, KOS-MOS! She has the Hilbert Effect ability which ends up being the only tool for survival onboard the Woglinde.

Answer: He tries to sacrifice himself using the Zohar

Well, Cherenkov trying to sacrifice himself turns out very important later on in the game, and in fact it's kind of creepy. The sacrifice has a lot to do with the Zohar, also. I'm not going to spoil it for you, but just so you know, this part of the story is very important.

Answer: The Hilbert Effect

The Hilbert Effect is used frequently throughout the game, and is quite useful against Gnosis when there are many of them. This is the only thing that allows you to attack the Gnosis, and is activated by KOS-MOS.

The ship picked up the Zohar and stored it in the hangar according to the cutscene that occurred when it showed the person who touched it disappear. Of course, they run into Cherenkov there, who is almost ready for his suicide attempt.

KOS-MOS explains to the enraged Shion that it had to be done, because had she not aimed straight through Virgil the efficiency of the shot would have gone off by a few percent. Shion screams at Kos-MOS, and the robot tells her that there is only room for two in the escape pod, anyway. That gets Shion even more angry!

This boss has 920 HP and is accompanied by two smaller, but more annoying, enemies called Sky Fish. This is a pretty simple boss fight, but you will need to use Shion's A.G.W.S. unit to win, most likely.

You find the real Zohar much further in the game. Another interesting note: Cherenkov's suicidal attempt did not work at all here, and that is because it was an emulator.

This happens at the same time that a ship with an unknown identity enters the battlefield. This is some kind of data for KOS-MOS, so that she would protect Shion if needed. KOS-MOS turns out to be bad at following orders....
