After the death of her husband (who she was also in the process of divorcing) she was looking for a project to occupy her time, and setting up an American version of the British Girl Guides seemed to fit the bill.

My sister and I earned the award. You have to do most of the same requirements that Boys do. However, according to my dad, an Avid Boy Scouter, Girl Scouts' high honor is harder with that we had to also write a book on all of the requirements that we did in order to get the Gold Award. Before you get the Gold Award, we had to receive the Silver Leadership, Silver Award, Gold Leadership, then the prestigious Gold Award.

Answer: Venturing, Exploring, and Learning for Life

I was in the original Exploring and received the highest award, The Exploring Achievement Award along with my sister. She and I (I am female) were in the Native American Explorers. Venturing took over where Exploring was in the program and Exploring programs are educational programs that help youth get into professions, ex: Fire Department and Police Department.

The Learning for Life is a similar program for Learning for Life. Due to the scrutiny of Boy Scouts, Exploring and Learning for Life, the term Boy Scouts is not mentioned though they are funded through them.

Answer: Philmont, Northern Tier, Sea Base, Summit

I have participated in Philmont and Sea Base. I would like to go to Northern Tier, but that would be canoeing through the boundary waters between Canada and the U.S. My dad has done all three camps. Northern Tier might be harder for short female such as myself.

During Round-up Scout night, the District Executive, the Boy Scout Professional, talks about the troop or pack that the youth is to join and ask for volunteers. Usually there is already a Cub or Scout Master, but this helps get committee members, Den Leaders, and Assistant Scout Masters.

This then will help the rotation of Leaders within the Troop and Cub Packs. Leaders are not paid, just rewarded with awards. Like one clever ex-Boy Scout Professional told me once, there are 4 types of people who like to be awarded, girls, boys, men, and women.
