1. Burj Al Arab

The Burj Al Arab hotel is one of the most iconic places in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is shaped like the sail of a boat and is located on an artificial island of the coast of Jumeirah Beach. From a distance, it would appear that the hotel is actually floating.

The Burj Al Arab is known for it luxuriousness. It is a five-star hotel with several highly rated restaurants, an aquarium and a helipad. The hotel is frequented by celebrities, royalty and wealthy businesspeople. It is also a frequent film location for many TV series and films.
2. Savoy Hotel

Answer: London

The Savoy is London's most famous hotel and is generally considered the standard by which other luxury hotels are judged. It was opened in 1889 by Richard D'Oyly Carte who was known for his work in the theater. In addition to its elegance and luxury, the Savoy is also known for its many famous cocktails that were created in one of many of the Savoy's bars and restaurants.
3. Shelbourne Hotel

The Shelbourne Hotel is a historic hotel that opened in 1824 in Dublin. It is best known for being occupied by British troops during the 1916 Easter Uprising. In addition, the Constitution of the Irish Free State was written inside the hotel in Room 112.
4. Watergate Hotel

The Watergate Hotel is part of the larger Watergate Complex where an infamous break in in 1972 of the Democratic National Committee Headquarters ultimately led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon and caused the most infamous political scandal in the United States, if not the world. Prior to the scandal, the Watergate Hotel was considered prime real estate and many prominent members of Congress and other politicians lived in the complex. Since the scandal, however, the hotel has seen its reputation decline.

Although it has gained infamy, the hotel and the complex no longer hold the prestige they once did.
5. Raffles Hotel

Answer: Singapore

Singapore's Raffles Hotel, once called Emerson's Hotel, is the most famous hotel on the island. It opened in 1887 and is built in the colonial style. The Raffles Hotel played a historical significance during World War II. When the Japanese occupied the island, many of Singapore's treasures were hidden inside the hotel.

A legend states that when the Japanese first entered the hotel, they encountered dancers waltzing unafraid of the occupation.
6. Luxor Las Vegas

Answer: Paradise

Although it is called the Luxor Las Vegas, the hotel (like many famous Vegas hotels) is actually located in the nearby town of Paradise, Nevada. The Luxor is modeled after an Egyptian pyramid with a ziggurat and a Sphinx also being part of the grounds.

The hotel is also home to the Luxor Sky Beam, the strongest beam of light in the world that can be seen, on a clear day, as far away as Los Angeles.
7. Hotel Gellert

Answer: Budapest

The Hotel Gellert in Budapest, Hungary opened in 1918. It was built in the Art Nouveau style and when it opened at the end of World War I, it was immediately seized by the government and used for official government purposes. The hotel is most famous for its bathhouses, thermal spas and swimming pools.

Much of the thermal area was badly damaged in World War II and had to been completely renovated afterward.
8. Badrutt's Palace Hotel

Badrutt's Palace Hotel is a famous luxury hotel nestled in the Swiss alpine city of St. Moritz. Some of the world's most famous winter athletes often stay at the hotel while competing in their sports. Skiing, snowboarding and curling are popular activities nearby but so is sailing on some of the areas many picturesque lakes.

The hotel was made famous by American bobsledder Billy Fiske who, during World War II, would stay at the hotel and jump from the chandelier.
9. Lake Palace

Answer: Udaipur

Lake Palace is a historic hotel in the Indian city of Udaipur. It was once called Jag Niwas and had previously been the summer home for the local royals. Although the hotel is on an island, it looks like it is simply floating unsupported on the lake. The most famous part of Lake Palace is the Lily Pond, an elaborate floating garden.
10. Hotel des Mille Collines

Answer: Kigali

The Hotel des Mille Collines is better known as the Hotel Rwanda. In 1994, over 1,200 people sought refuge in the hotel during the Rwandan Genocide. This story is told in the 2004 film "Hotel Rwanda" which the hotel is most commonly (though incorrectly) thought to be named. It is a four-star hotel, and its named translates to "the hotel of a thousand hills."
