The speech served as an inaugural address at the stroke of midnight on 15 August,1947 when India became independent.
2. This PM introduced the slogan "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" and earned part of his name from Kashi Vidya Peetha.

"Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" means "Hail soldiers, Hail farmers". It was used to encourage the soldiers during the attack by Pakistan and encourage farmers to fight the food grain scarcity, both the events occurring during Shastri's tenure.
