Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what city do I-35 and US-59 intersect?

Answer: Laredo

Laredo is the southern terminus of I-35 and US-59.
2. I am approaching this city from the east. I am approaching a freeway junction toward I-10, I-35, and US-90. I want to stay on the freeway going toward Austin. However, if I don't veer over to the right, I will be on US-90. Where am I?

Answer: San Antonio

I am actually on I-10 coming from Houston. If I stay on the left, I will be on 90, going toward Del Rio!
3. Just past the junction of US-59 and US-183, going south on 59, the highway merges into 1 lane each direction. Where is this junction?

Answer: Goliad

Goliad is also the site of the infamous "Goliad Massacre". Keep going south on 59, and the highway narrows to one lane, continuing to Laredo. Be careful!
4. I am about 190 miles east of El Paso, and I meet a junction of I-10 and US-90. Where am I?

Answer: Van Horn

Van Horn is the western terminus of US-90. Continuing east leads you to the other cities, eventually to San Antonio and Houston.
5. About 86 miles east of Houston, this is another city where I-10 and US-90 meet, and run concurrently into the Sabine River. Where am I?

Answer: Beaumont

Beaumont is the last major city before we cross the state of Louisiana on I-10. US-90 veers off at Exit 4 in Louisiana.
6. In what city do TX-288 and TX-36 junction, where both highways meet their end?

Answer: Freeport

Both highways end just short of the Gulf of Mexico.
7. US-290 junctions with I-35 twice in this city, running concurrent in between. Where am I?

Answer: Austin

Just check it out. You'll see how confusing this is...
8. Continuing on US-290 going west, we meet a "control city" just short of the US-290/I-10 junction. Where am I?

Answer: Fredericksburg

Careful! We are going west on 290, not east on I-10! That eliminates Junction and Ozona. If we go west on 290, we'll eventually meet I-10, and continue to Junction and Ozona.
9. If we were traveling on I-45 going north, and we go west on US-190, where am I?

Answer: Huntsville

Note that I said we were going WEST on 190. If we continue west on US-190, we'll meet two other interstates on the route: I-35 near Temple, and eventually I-10 in Iraan!
10. These two highways, US-290 and US-281, meet in this city where a former President was born. Where are we?

Answer: Johnson City

That president would be Lyndon B. Johnson, and he was born in Johnson City. Fitting, isn't it?
