Iowa has three public universities: the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, the University of Iowa in Iowa City, and Iowa State University in Ames. Waterloo is the next city east of Cedar Falls.

Gilchrist is the location of the Office of Admissions, the Office of Public Safety, the Financial Aid Office, and the Office of the Controller, among other offices.

The UNI-Dome is the stadium where UNI plays all of its home football games. Other events in the UNI-Dome include concerts, Cedar Falls High School football games, and the High School state football championships. Lang Hall, originally built in 1901, was renovated in 2001. It is named after long-time faculty member William C. Lang.

The CBB was built in 1990, and houses the College of Business Administration. It is named after Constantine W. Curris, who was the president of UNI from 1983 to 1995.

The GBPAC opened in 2000. The building cost $23 million to build, and includes three concert halls, a beautiful glass lobby, a theatre which was inspired by an old opera hall, and many classrooms and rehearsal spaces.
