    Brits call it petrol, Americans call it gas. So what do Americans call what Brits call gas?

    Well, what do Brits call gas? If you mean the gas you cook with as opposed to the gas/petrol that you put in your car, they are both called gas here in Canada and I believe it is the same in the U.S. although the gas we cook with is technically natural gas as opposed to gasoline (petrol). But we mostly just say gas for both.

    I'm not sure about Britain, but here in Australia if you refer to putting gas in a car it is LPG, or liquefied petroleum gas.

    In America, the gas used to light stoves and heaters is often billed as "Natural Gas" on bills from the gas company.

    The British use the word "gas" to refer to what we Yanks call "natural gas", as shown in the referenced article, which uses both terms:
