Currently, the hottest pepper is the Carolina Reaper at 2,200,000 Scoville heat units.

The Scoville scale effectively measures the amount of capsaicin in a pepper with the more being the hotter. On the scale, a jalapeno pepper would be about 2,500 SHU and a habanero would be about 100,000 SHU.
