Why is 'Last of the Summer Wine' so named?

Presumable wine made in the summer, country wine, was consumed in the winter and when devoured, the bottle was dead. The characters in the programme are in their winter, finding things to get up to to eak out the last drops of their ' bottles '. Thats how I read it! Mar 12 03, 4:31 PM
