How is a full sized apple put inside a thin-necked bottle without breaking the bottle or cutting the fruit?

I believe they actually grow the apple in the bottle. They attach the bottles to the tree before the fruit grows. They also do this with pears.

Find an apple tree in late May, early June. Place a bottle over a branch where an apple is forming and seal the two together as well as possible.
In late September / early October the apple should have ripened and hey-presto you have an apple in a bottle.
HINT: Use a number of bottles over different apples to guarantee getting at least one good one at the end of the season. Also keep the bottle upright with the neck at the bottom to stop water and condensation collecting.

Other fruits can be dehydrated and insterted into a bottle, where they would rehydrate to their natural volume.
