I look at old pictures of them, remember good times we had together, remember all of the love they gave me & I cry a lot. It's heartbreaking to lose a beloved pet & I feel sympathy for anyone who has gone through it. Reply #1. Jun 21 11, 9:04 PM |

We bury our dogs in the orchard adjoining the house block. Each dog has a fruit tree planted over them, so we can now say the "Rosie" apricot is flowering, or the "Dexter" apple needs spraying ! Reply #2. Jun 21 11, 9:18 PM |

We had our last two dogs cremated. We have their caskets in the house, each with a photo on top. That way they are neither gone nor forgotten. Reply #3. Jun 21 11, 11:33 PM |

What i am going to do is get a tattoo of my dogs image on my leg. (I may even do this before he passess). When he does go since I nolonger have aback yard with grass to busy him I wll have him cremated and placed on my dresser so I can see him before bed and when I wake up in the morning. Hopefully I still have another few years with him. Reply #4. Jun 22 11, 5:30 AM |

I have two videos of my cat Nikki that I listen to from time to time. I also think about her and the good times we had together. Reply #5. Jun 22 11, 12:06 PM |

I had formal pictures took of two of my Chihuahuas when they were about four months old. That was almost 14 years ago. Susie, one of the Chihuahuas, died about six months ago. Sassy, the other one who is slightly retarded would never come to me voluntarily until Susie died. Now she wants to be held all the time and won't let me get out of her sight. I know her days are numbered, and I am so glad I will have the pictures to remind me of them. Reply #7. Jun 22 11, 6:20 PM |

I have had many cats in my life & they all have had very special meaning in my life. I keep their memories alive in my heart & sometimes compare their differences with my current cat Midnight. Reply #8. Jun 24 11, 9:06 PM |

I have photos of Maxx all over the house and I also have a special album of photos of when he was a pup. Lately, when we were out and about, I got some videos of him on my phone and he was barking at me to throw a stick. I'll keep that forever. He's 10 now but I so hope that I have at least another 5 years with him. Reply #9. Jun 25 11, 6:20 AM |

Beneath the Lounge window, out in the garden, are little graves of those who cannot be with us physically any more, it is the most important part of our garden. Each grave has a border of white stones and a strip of grass separates the graves (4 of them)........each grave has fresh flowers growing according to season, snowdrops, crocuses, primroses in the spring, and currently pansies, french marigolds and petunias. First grave is where we put the ashes of our old "collie/alsatian" dog TIMINY. Next comes our little ginger kitten that came froma rescue centre and was onkly with us 3 months. He is followed by "my little lady" FREYA, who's brother LEO is still with us. Finally the last one to have to leave us, another rescue cat CALLY, who stayed with us 14 years. They will never be forgotten. Reply #10. Jun 25 11, 8:10 AM |

I am leaning towards cremation when my dog, Jam-E-Q, passes. One of the reasons is I would need a back hoe to dig a grave deep enough. She is a boxer mix whom I found almost 17 years ago. I have pictures of her and a couple of videos I took of her with my web cam. I am not looking forward to her time coming. It is tough trying to determine how much pain she is going through. Arthritis has slowed her down considerably. I have to help her get up when she lays down sometimes because she can't get her legs to cooperate all the time. Reply #11. Jun 26 11, 2:57 AM |

We all go through that phase with our friends and it really isn't easy to come to terms with. Only you can decide when her quality of life has deteriorated so much that she really is suffering. I've got an 11 year old German Shepherd who I hope has a few years in him yet. But when the time comes to say goodbye I won't let him linger on in pain. Reply #12. Jun 26 11, 3:59 AM |

Thought I'd share this: A DOG’S PLEA Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me. Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me learn. Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear. Please take me inside when it is wet and cold, for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements. I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you. And, my friend, when I am very old, and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going; I am not having any fun. Please see that my trusting life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in your hands. Anonymous Reply #14. Jun 26 11, 6:41 AM |

At the moment, I feel like she has more good days than bad hours. I just know that her time will come before the end of the year. I have no plans to keep her when she is really bad. I still will hate it. I have had her longer than my 2 wives I had combined! Reply #15. Jun 26 11, 7:47 AM |

ga jam have you tried either metacam or petcam for arthritis? It helped our german shepherds. All our dogs and cats are buried in the orchard with a fruit tree planted on their graves. Reply #16. Jun 26 11, 8:11 AM |

I give her a glucamine. I started that about 3 or 4 years ago and it helped quite a bit for a while. The vet has supplemented that with steroids. They have been used sporadically due to side effects. We now are giving her the minimum dose every other day. They don't work as well as they once did. He also advised me to give her aspirin if she seems to be hurting a lot. There just isn't a cure for Father Time. 17 years is almost twice the average for boxers (she is a boxer mix technically.)I was just laughing at her. She has required my help 4 or 5 times today to get up from the floor. She has gone up and down the steps to the house though. But I had a meat loaf sandwich for lunch and put a little bit in her bowl. She bounced right up off the floor! Reply #17. Jun 26 11, 11:46 AM |

Glucosamine is a great help with joint problems. It isn't pain relief but helps to keep joints supple. My old boy is showing the first signs of arthritis in his front right wrist. We give him glucosamine and a minimal dose of Metacam. A word of caution though, my vet told me not to give glucosamine with chondroitin. That's meant for humans and dogs can't metabolize it. Aspirin is the original wonder drug. So is meatloaf :) Reply #18. Jun 26 11, 12:10 PM |

I read books on "Give A Book" and for every book I read they give a book to charity. My dog has given somuch to me now I want to give back like she would want me to do. I also had my church pray for her at church when she died. Also most her toys went to her friends who she always met at the park. The rest were given out at church during "offering of the pets" which is a church service/get together kinda for pets. Sally aka Buck loved anything to do with God, helping others, and oh yeah Harry Potter. :) She also loved snow |-D Reply #20. Jul 26 11, 2:04 AM |
