I'm at my very heaviest. I broke four ribs that took forever to heal, and was diagnosed with diabetes. Add to that a long hpt summer where I was basically immobile, and need to do something. I'm 5'6" but not going to tell my weight number just yet, I'm too embarrassed. I've been eliminating all sweets except for fruit. I don't smoke or drink. I still need to come down. I'll join in, if you don't mind, and see how we get. Reply #8. Jan 03 12, 12:42 AM |

Weight 185 at 5'9" sounds slim - 170, positively skinny! Will you be keeping us up to date with your food, and changes to your diet, as well as weight changes? Reply #9. Jan 03 12, 8:13 AM |

George, I have “a love affair with food.” Always had. Currently the heaviest I’ve been, and refuse to ask what the scale says. I need to start exercising more. Reply #13. Jan 03 12, 11:24 AM |

Welcome to our world George. I wish you luck, I reached my maximum some years ago (168 lbs according to your method if the maths is good) but go by my waist measurement as I'm 4 inches shorter than you and it was pretty huge. I lost well over a stone (14 lbs) when a dietician at the gym gave me a routine, and after maybe a year most of it came back suddenly in a few weeks. I've lost a little but then started going backwards again, and would rather lift weights and not suffer the whole time trying to lose a few inches off my waist any more, it's not even as if it stays off but more like gardening that it doesn't seem to stay like it very long. I was told what I eat was as important as how much, and bread was a lot better than cakes and biscuits, which I stopped buying for about 6 months and did the job. Reply #17. Jan 10 12, 8:10 PM |

My preferred method of checking m y weight would be how my clothes fit. Jeans don’t fit, and when I bend over to clip toenails or tie shoes, I feel like I’m about to blow a fuse. If that’s not an indicator, I don’t know what is. I’ve always had a love affair with food, and while I try to chew it slowly (as I read somewhere you’re supposed to so you get full faster), It’s often hard to once I start eating. It just tastes so good, and… I have hand weights on my desk and a stationary bike in the bedroom, but motivating myself to use them is the hard part. Reply #19. Jan 11 12, 10:35 AM |

"First the man takes a drink. Then the drink takes a drink. Then the drink takes the man.” Japanese proverb It's forgotten the bit about the drink taking crisps and nuts and wings and pizza... Could you tell yourself that chewing slowly will make the food last longer? (Just a thought.) Reply #20. Jan 11 12, 5:18 PM |
