Rupert Grint (Ron) and Alan Rickman (Snape) are the best two for me. Mind you, I don't believe Rupert had to do much acting as he seems to be the same character in real life! I hated Snape in the book (well the first 6 anyway!) and Alan plays the part so well I shiver when he appears on screen! Reply #21. Aug 16 08, 7:04 AM |

For me it is certainly Helen Bonham Camrter who plays Bellatrix Lestrange. I honestly don't think anybody else could have played her. She is exactly how I imagine Bellatrix. Reply #23. Aug 28 08, 5:55 PM |

Definetly Richard Harris as the original Dumbledore, I'd put Michael Gambon as average at best. Reply #25. Sep 26 08, 2:16 PM |

Richard Harris completely embodied the Dumbledore of the early books, but Gambon does the same for the later Dumbledore, especially the post-DH Dumbledore. The actors are radically different in their approach to the character, but then so is the character radically different from the beginning of the series to what came out later. Reply #26. It has to be Daniel Radcliffe, surely, as harry?! I think he is so talented and portrays harry very well. Reply #27. Sep 29 08, 11:22 AM |

I like the weird little actor that played Dobby - the only other film i've seen him in was as the Drill Sergeant in Stanley Kubrick's 'Full Metal Jacket'. Reply #30. Sep 29 08, 7:22 PM |

Alan Rickman is generally very good at portraying his characters. Daniel Radcliffe in movies 1 - 3 wasn't necessarily bad, but, there was just something missing. Something just didn't seem altogether right. Movie 4 and onwards he has improved. Emma Thompson as Prof. Trelawney is probably the most underrated performer in the whole series - she is absolutely brilliant. Reply #34. Dec 19 08, 4:45 AM |

I don't think it's fair to compare the younger actors with the more experienced ones. Come on, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Emma Thompson et al have all been around for ages and have bags of experience under their belts. I'm sorry that so much gets left out of the films, as I love the secondary characters such as Prof McGonegal and the twins. Helen Bonham Carter is great as Bellatrix, mad as a broom! In the first couple of films I honestly thought that Rupert Grint, the lads who played the twins and the one who played Neville were cringingly bad in places, but they have all improved considerably with experience and possibly better direction. Ron's "Bloody hells" seemed terribly forced and the scene in the first film where Neville tries to stop them was so bad I felt embarassed. However, they were learning on the job and they've all improved greatly. Reply #35. Dec 19 08, 5:32 AM |

I'd have to say Alan Rickman...people actually would start to imagine Snape as him when reading the books. He's an awesome actor. Ron wasn't bad either, though. Reply #38. Jan 25 09, 2:36 PM |
