Shiningstar7 An English teacher once told me that, "learning keeps you forever young", and it's so true! That's my favourite saying here, I posted it in my comments. Thanks to Fun Trivia, I'm learning more everyday! And it's therapeutic they say, for older people (such as myself), to keep your brain active. Reply #1. I'd have to say the one that is on my profile. “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” Mahatma Gandhi Reply #4. Jul 15 10, 2:06 AM |

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- WOW-- What a Ride!" Reply #5. Jul 15 10, 3:55 AM |

She wasn't famous to anybody outside our immediate family, but when I was very young my mother told me that if I read a lot that I could travel over the world without ever leaving this little rural area where I grew up. She was right. When I grew older I did get a chance to travel over much of the world and I didn't find any place that was totally unfamiliar because I had already read about most of the places I visited and lived. One of my favorites is: "Speak up to be heard; hush up to be appreciated" - author unknown (original quote uses shut instead of hush, but post wouldn't be accepted this way) Reply #14. Aug 14 10, 9:26 AM |

We should start a little FT book of wisdom I think. These are all great. Except for my two. I use the expression "In a pig's eye" a lot. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever, but it keeps popping out whenever I'm asked a silly question. And this one made me laugh the first time I saw it so I've always remembered it: "A camel is a horse designed by a committee" Reply #15. Aug 15 10, 6:19 PM |

I think it's a pearl of wisdom from Sir Alec Issigonis - the genius/designer of the Mini. Not sure,though. Reply #19. Aug 21 10, 11:41 AM |

I'd rather call it a pearl of wisdom, than a moth-eaten cliché, which is what one Mairi Macdonald called it. http://www.pfc.org.uk/node/638 It's also referred to as an ancient proverb. It's not that ancient! " “A camel is a horse designed/planned by a committee” is a phrase of unknown authorship that became popular by 1956.
