Subject: - - The FunTrivia Sprint - -

It has seemed, over the past weeks, that some of our authors (specifically some of our racers) have had a bit of trouble acclimatizing to a slower pace. This is a reasonable thing to say-- I've had the pleasure of pushing you guys around FunTrivia for a good couple months (and longer) to write way out of your comfort zones. Some people just want more. Luckily, I do too.

That's why we're going for a FunTrivia Sprint.

This Sprint, like the Race, is not for the author who isn't ready to get their hands dirty and explore new grounds...quickly. The rules are as follows:

  • Wes and I have both created sprint courses; both are different.

  • Sprinters will be able to complete the Sprint as individuals or in teams of two. Once you figure out if you're going alone or in a double, you will need to choose one of the following options:
    * Normal Pairs: One member of the pair must complete either K or W.
    * Normal single: Play either K or W for each round. You choose which one you want.
    * Hardcore single: Choose K or W on the first task, stick with it for the rest of the game.
    * Hardcore pairs: On each set, one must complete K and one W.

  • Sprinters will receive tasks via the Lounge here-- even if you're not sprinting you'll be able to see the tasks as they appear.

  • There are a predetermined amount of tasks and all sprinters will receive the clues at the same time. This is not a race against competitors; it is a race for yourselves. This leads into the most important point.

  • Authors will have five days to write the quiz. This does not include queue times. The timer begins when the task is announced and ends when the quiz goes online.

The tasks will vary in many ways-- some will take authors to categories they never believed they would be able to visit and others may involve some of the site's most popular authors and quizzes.

If you wish to sign up, let us know here.
**If you wish to attempt the Hardcore options, please note whether you would like to select set A or set B. You will not know whose set is whose until we begin the sprint.

The Sprint will commence on April 15th.

Oh yeah, and Wes and I are completing Hardcore Singles. ;)
But we'll never tell which set we've chosen.

What happens if you don't finish in time?

You are out of the running for the win-- If you do want to take this on for the challenge it is, then staying within the five days is the big part of it.

Tasks will continue to be posted every week; if you don't keep up it will really pile up.

Some sprinters will be competitive and some will not; the goal with this is to have a bit of something for everybody-- the cool element of mysterious clues, the pressure for those who want it (with the time crunch), and the challenge.

One more, how many tasks is there? Or is that a mystery?

All in all you'd expect to be writing twelve quizzes; it's one a week.
If you work in pairs on the normal version, you'll be able to split them with a partner.

Count me in as a single, though if anyone wants to pair up with me, I'm more than happy to do so.

I think I'll stick with Normal. That way, I can pick the less devilish task that you and Wes offer. ;p

You know what? I'll go Hardcore if that's okay. Though I know I'm going to regret it. ;p

What happens if an odd number of people opt for teams?

    --Set A or Set B?

Re: "What happens if an odd number of people opt for teams?"
--It shouldn't come to that; you guys are picking your own teams.
If you post here that you're interested in forming a pair, I'm sure someone will contact you or, if others note their interest, you can contact them. :)

Let me make sure I understand this, you have to get the quiz written and online in five days correct?

Yes-- You have five days (excluding queue time).

Okay so if it takes 2 days to write and sits in queue for 4 days and one more day to fix a problem then 2 days more in queue that would still be within the 5 days because I only had it for 3 days total even though it would be 9 days calendar time.

    You are correct.

We can't control the queues, as we know, and it would be unfair to put the editors through another Amazing Race style challenge so soon after the last one.

We will track quizzes by starting the clock at the time of the task's posting, stopping it the minute it goes into the queue, and restarting it if it comes back with corrections.

Go over the five day limit and you will receive a time penalty which could compromise any time standings Wes and I post for you at the end of the thing.

All in all, you're writing a quiz a week, and that doesn't match up to the intensity of the race at which point quizzes were submitted much quicker than five days.

So the timer is paused during queue time?
