Depends on the basis of the story. Reply #1. Jan 23 08, 1:38 PM |

It could work, but it would depend. JK Rowling is a brilliant author and she might be able to make it work. The only problem is that she finished the Harry Potter part of the story and people might think of it as a bit of a tacky spin-off. But I agree with Rayven, it depends on the story. Anyway, I don't know what you know about "Star Wars" bookss, I don;t actually read them, but the so-called "expanded Universe" must have been taken form MILLIONS of books. I'm not even sure if that is actually an exageration! Reply #2. Jan 23 08, 1:54 PM |

The book 8 is supposed to be the encyclodpedia of the Wizard world. She says she has lots of information of what happens to all the characters after Hogwarts as well as back story on the minor characters that was relevant to the story. You can read about what she wants to write on her website JKRowling.com, she also mentions it in some interviews which you can find on theleakycauldron.org. Reply #3. Jan 25 08, 7:59 PM |

I think it may be good but I don't think many people will buy it since they are not all about Harry. Reply #4. Jan 26 08, 9:35 AM |

I think that there should be a book eight, with Harry Potter but the other charaters should be in there more. Reply #6. Feb 05 08, 1:32 PM |

Books 1 to 7 have made a great story, but the point about good stories is that they should leave something to the reader's imagination. I think that authors who try to tie up every last loose end just end up with something that could be used as a TV soap script. If J K Rowling is as clever as I think she is, she'll quit while she's ahead with the Harry Potter story, rather than produce an 8th book in the series that may prove a disappointment. An encyclopaedia of some sorts would be a good idea, and would present the opportunity to update the biographies of the various characters to take account of the 19-year gap in Book 7. As far as not being all about Harry Potter goes (post #4): not all of us fans have Harry at the top of our favourite character list ;-)) Reply #7. Feb 06 08, 7:12 AM |

I agree with highfells. Harry may be the main character of the series, but he ranks probably around number 7 on my top 10 list. Reply #8. Feb 06 08, 7:41 AM |

I think that it could work, but it might be a failure. Rowling should be happy with her success and not over do it in my opinion. Reply #9. Feb 06 08, 8:15 PM |

I think a backstory would be nice, and the encyclopedia would give more information about the so called wizarding World. I enjoy books where the author gives us information on the world that they have created, and where the story takes place. Like what tolkein did. He created a World, some languages(real speakable languages), and an amazing story. Reply #10. Feb 06 08, 8:49 PM |

JKR will never be Tolkien. Too much of the wizard world contradicts itself, a good deal was not thought out well at all (what actually *is* Dark Magic, for example) and a complete reliance on dumb luck and exceptionally stupid wizards forms the basis for any plot. She should quit while she's ahead. Knowing what Neville eats for lunch or Harry's favourite salad dressing is adds nothing. Five will get you ten, whatever back story ends up in the encyclopedia, it will directly contradict something that is in the books themselves. Reply #11. Feb 06 08, 9:07 PM |

I reckon if it is not about harry then she should make Draco or someone like that the new voldermort and makes James, Albus and Lily (harry and ginny kids) enemies with Scorpious (draco kid) or something like that Reply #12. Feb 13 08, 3:49 AM |

I dunno. I don't look forward to it. I mean I Love the books, but she finished them already. Why more? Unless it's another one of those books, like Quidditch trhough the ages and fantastic beasts and where to find them. That would be cool. Reply #13. Mar 15 08, 7:59 PM |

(SPOILER AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE DEATHLY HALLOWS) if Harry and Ginny had their kids, it would most likely be based on them.....if my minds serves me right they had about 4 and Ron and Hermione had 2 or sumthing..... but seriously, an 8th book would be great so i dont have to keep reading the series over and pver again.....it'll give me something to do IF it really comes out..... I think it will be a totally different series. That's what she's planning to do. It could be a book about Harry's children. It could be about another hogwarts student. Reply #16. May 20 08, 1:50 PM |

the So-called eighth Harry Potter book is said to be a encyclopedia of the Harry Potter World, giving more information on some of the characters, objects and creatures in the HP books. Reply #17. May 20 08, 4:25 PM |

Even though I'd like a Harry Potter-encyclopedia, I'd like the idea about another student or something a bit more. I'll start another great series about that world. It'll be great. Reply #18. May 22 08, 4:03 AM |

Well, we wish there would be a Book 8 and a movie 8 She should name it: Harry Potter -- 19 Years Later Well there is an " Epilogue " at the Deathly Hallows book... which is like -- 19 years later. Harry got married to the Ginny pig Ron and Hermione got married Hermione didn't finished her studies Thats a problem... So, J.K. Rowling should really make the 8th Book... If you liked the idea, thanks all! Reply #20. Jun 08 08, 7:52 AM |
