"Alex: The Life of a Child" It was a 1986 TV movie starring Craig T. Nelson and Bonnie Bedilia as the parents of little Alex (Alexandra), who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis as a baby. The story was based on the real life of Sports Illustrated writer Frank Deford, whose daugther Alex died at the age of 8. During the 1970's most babies diagnosed with CF died fairly early on, but Alex lived for quite some time and was truly courageous. My high school biology teacher showed this movie to the class one day and there wasn't a dry eye in the place. One of only 2 or 3 movies I have ever cried at (and I didn;t cry at Old Yeller)! For me the saddest movie ever is Watership Down. At the age of 36 I still can't watch it without shedding a tear. Reply #27. Apr 11 08, 3:02 PM |

Plenty of good choices here - I'm going with Old Yeller. As a kid, it just tore me up. Couldn't handle Bambi and Dumbo either - even though they had happy endings. Reply #28. Apr 16 08, 1:04 PM |

I'm a bit of wimp when it comes to watching films and crying. The notebook is really sad but I also cried loads when I watched Pearl Harbour. Reply #29. Jun 05 08, 3:59 AM |

I always thought a movie could never make me cry, I mean, I didn't even cry after watching "terms of endearment." This streak was broken by "The Fox and The Hound" Reply #33. Jun 05 08, 6:23 PM |

All of the movies mentioned are real 'tear jerkers' but the one movie that really gets to me (no one else has mentioned it ) is When A Man Loves A Woman -- makes me well up every time. Reply #34. Jun 05 08, 6:50 PM |

This one is an oldie, but The Other Side of the Mountain with Beau Bridges and Marilyn Hassett was a real tear jerker for me when I first saw it in the 70's. Especially since it's based on the real life story of former skiing champion Jill Kinmont. Reply #35. Jun 06 08, 10:27 AM |
