Mostly British bands from the 60s and 70s, not much for American music even though I was born here, except for a few exceptions, such as Boston, Chicago and Kansas! :-) Reply #48. Dec 14 14, 9:20 PM |

Favorite singers: Dido, Sia, Lily Allen, Florence Welch, Amy Lee, Brent Smith, Imogen Heap, Seal, the Gallagher brothers, John Lodge, and Justin Hayward. In my opinion, the best voice of my era goes to Amy Lee. Growing up it was Mama Cass or Karen Carpenter. Reply #51. Feb 28 15, 10:28 AM |

I HAVE to add Bobby Bland. His vocals were SO smooth at times, at other times he was very forceful and strong. If you've never heard this man's voice, check it out. You won't be disappointed! Reply #52. Mar 17 15, 10:05 PM |

Going by the most "conventionally" attractive voices, Jónsi of Sigur Rós stands out by a mile (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz8iEJeh26E), as do James Blake (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p6PcFFUm5I), Bat for Lashes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UznHTBZIa8E), Peter Silberman of The Antlers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9afJSKCOQQ) and Lauren Mayberry of Chvrches (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-zN2KmHg0s). However, I find some of my favourite vocalists are the ones with something slightly odd about their delivery, such as Matt Berninger from The National, The Tallest Man on Earth, Laura Marling (after her first album), King Krule, Stuart Murdoch of Belle & Sebastian, Sam Herring of Future Islands (especially live), Frank Ocean, Ian Curtis of Joy Division, John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats and Justin Vernon of so many bands (most notably Bon Iver). Not an exhaustive list, but some examples. Kendrick Lamar is also a really impressive vocalist, the way he can rap in all kinds of different voices for different characters or emotions is a real testament to his versatility and creativity as an artist (I'd say he's hands down one of the greatest performers of this generation).
