In a roundabout way. My oldest son's exwife's brother was Michael Baker. He is an astronaut and captained more than one shuttle flights. you can read about him below.

My grandmother's cousin founded Zetters Pools, my mother's cousin founded Trebor, and my uncle's sister-in-law married Dave Kay of Kay's greeting cards (which is probably defunct now), but I didn't know any of them. Perhaps they wouldn't be famous, but their companies would. An aunt married a member of David Ben-Gurion's government. Bernice Reubens is another of my mother's cousins, and I haven't met her either. My brother-in-law is (primarily) a film-maker in America, and his daughter has appeared in films and TV series. I haven't met her, I've only met her younger sister, but I have watched her on TV, which is a bit spooky.

I can't remember which side of the family I'm related to him on, but former Dallas Cowboys running back Timmy Newsome is part of my family.

Not to put a crimp in anyone's happy day, but the fact is that those listed in this thread are not Hollywood Celebrities. That is what this board is intended for.

All this really belongs on the individual teams or local boards.

I am sure that a moderator will come along soon.

Who came along and sneaked the word "CLOSED" into the thread title?

Agnes, it's lovely to see you up and running again, but I'm afraid I can't see the logic behind your objection to this thread. Doesn't "celebrity" indicate a person who is famous, or celebrated? Hollywood doesn't have a monopoly on famous or celebrated people.

Here's a definition of "celebrity" from Answers.com:
1. A famous person.
2. Renown; fame.

Note: Not restricted or confined to Americans.

jacquie38 - have you any idea how many friends that bit of news could make you? (Drool.)

I agree, Lesley, Celebrity does not equal only Hollywood folks (although the "Celebrities" quiz category is just for entertainment types).

But it actually makes for a tighter board than having a bunch more threads like, "Any Sports Celebrities in Your Family", or Literary Celebrities, or Politicians, or Outlaws etc. (hmmmm, notice how Outlaws just naturally came to mind after Politicians!)

Hmm that's a good point - we could have threads in all the boards, asking if we had famous sporty, literary, video-game-designery, musical... yawn. Sorry - I'm boring myself now.

Sorry, but I really beg to differ. Especially since the people you are mentioning would not be found in a Celebrity quiz. They would be found in People.

That is my objection. I am just a regular poster like the rest of you, but have been around far longer an I know where things belong, and if this was not a case for a thread being closed and moved to a different locale then I don't know what is.

Donovan McNab would not be found in a Celebrity quiz. You would find him in a sports quiz.
Supreme court Justices would not be found in a celebrity quiz. You would find them in the people category, or perhaps the world category under USA.
Video game voicers would not be found in a celebrity quiz. That would go in Entertainment.

George Clooney would, and there is a thread about famous people you have known and met for that.

Thankfully, the Celebrity board is not like the General board where every single thread starts up. This thread really and truly does not belong here.

If members of your family are on TV, and you know them, but no one else does how does their fame justify belonging in the Celebrity Category? They would go on your team or local boards.

You have a point JTJ, but in my book Julia Roberts or George Clooney have nothing on Mike Baker. It is just that they are famous in the movie category, not the astronaut category.

He's not really my uncle - he's my husband - but don't tell anyone we are trying to keep it secret!

Just between us. ssh!

Fair point, but if we had a different thread for famous relatives in every category, we'd have an awful lot of threads. Where else would you want to round up famous relatives?

Jacquie - shareses?

"Where else would you want to round up famous relatives? "

--Team or local boards for relatives that are famous to you and your friends, but not famous the world over.

That would be the best place in all honesty. All threads like this to is clog the boards, and the General board is a perfect example of that.

My second cousin Bernice Reubens was a Booker prize-winning novelist
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/obituaries/article493988.ece
but I don't know how many of my team-mates, or Bedfordshire people, have heard of her.

People living in Boston, Mass, or further afield, might have seen my brother-in-law's TV programme, and some of the films he made or appeared in, or may have bought Hanson records he produced. Anyone who watched Homicide - Life on the Streets, or films like “Rescue Me” and "Watching the Detectives," would have seen my niece.

My son has been on TV two or three times in England, and once in Croatia, and he's very famous in my blog.

I suppose I could spare him on Tuesdays - I'll send him round to your house (but don't wear him out!)

You are too generous. :) Tuesdays are quiet, and a borrow of Mr Clooney sounds like just what I need to brighten my drab week. Thank you.

Woohooooo!

Lesley, I've certainly heard of Bernice Rubens, and read many of her novels, including "I Sent a Letter to My Love" and "Madame Sousatska," both of which were made into movies, the latter with Shirley MacLaine. She's up there with my other favorite British writers, which include Fay Weldon, Ruth Rendell, Kate Atkinson and William Trevor. How great that you have such a distinguished writer in your family.
