Subject: New 'Codebreaker' challenge

I'm still trying to find the 'Riddle' (think I've figured out the clues, but still can't find the darn thing), now this one comes along? Jeez Terry, do you have stock in Bayer or Tylenol? Are ya tryin' to drive us completely insane(short trip for me) or just mildly nuts?

I found the 1st cipher easily enough only one word could have a different meaning, but it didn't seem to matter. The third was a little harder. The second has eluded me all along. I just leave it alone and go back and fiddle with it when I'm in the mood. It will either come to me or it won't.

I have to say, after reading some of the posts on this thread, I'm more confused than ever. I know that one of the clues indicates that three different ciphers are used.

What I don't understand is why several people are mentioning that they got to the third cipher without knowing what the second cipher is.

I always assumed that the first cipher was the symbols, and the second was the jumbled phrase that needs to be decoded using the hint from the symbols. As far as the third cipher goes, I imagined that it would become more clear once the jumbled phrase was solved.

Hmmm.

I believe what you call the 2nd cipher the rest of us call the third cipher. As you said the cipher required to decode the letters requires some sort of keyword, and I thought we need the 2nd cipher to figure out the keyword. Then we can apply the 3rd cipher and figure out the password. As of right now, I have tried multiple keywords and none seem to work and I have no idea how to figure out the keyword (then again I don't know 1 of the 3 ciphers).

Would somebody who has the mini-badge mind sending me a PM explaining the three ciphers? I used what I like to call a 'backdoor method' to discover the cipher. Probably not the way it was intended to work but it still worked.

I would like to second Buddy1's request. I finally solved the challenge through mostly guesswork, but I would love to know how the second and third ciphers were supposed to work.

Quite a challenge....I really ought to stick with one of these headaches at a time....but this one, El Dorado and that blasted song fascinate me. Do you work on more than one of these at a time? Or just try to make it through before starting the next.

Probably a question already answered but when you answer the first cipher, is the answer the second cipher?

I think I'm answering the question but the answer involves the letters and not the symbols. If you are trying to figure out the three ciphers, then you will need to solve the symbols part before you solve the letters part.

Judy, I'm also trying those three at the same time. Well, I'll do one for a while, give up and try another one, etc. I keep going back to all of them. Every time I think, "I don't care anymore. I quit!"... I end up thinking I will give it another shot, lol.

Good luck. :)

wow. It is well over a year since anyone even ventured a comment on this Code Breaker challenge. Like all before me I have the first code. Whether it contains one or two clues is a question. Guess I'll try intuitive guessing instead of working it through, as nothing makes sense.

This is a tough one... I think I know the first message and assuming the third part is the second part of the first part, then I know that. The fact that so many people got stuck on the second part makes me feel like I might be on the right path.

Well done, that wasn't the easiest challenge to do but it's so long since I did it I can't even remember the steps! There are several mini-badges based on puzzle-solving, e.g. there are two based on The Winner Takes it All - but don't do those two if you're an ABBA fan, you'll never be able to play that song again.

Eldorado was another favourite of mine but you really need two people for that as there's a lot of work involved, e.g. lots of quizzes need to be taken if only to rule them out. Good luck with your next project anyway. :)

Thanks flopsymopsy! The Eldorado puzzle is a little overwhelming to look at, at this point at least... I am impressed that so many have found the treasure. I love that there are so many different challenges here, I'm just scratching the surface for now.

The best part of the code breaker is that it can be brute forced. I got it by brute force, then went back and got help on doing it the "right" way.
