They've just announced on the news that it's still neck and neck in the popular vote. It was the electoral college vote where Trump won on a landslide. I must admit I don't really understand why the two votes can differ so much.

The electoral college outlived its usefulness long ago.

I've just realised that someone is bound to say that I don't understand because I'm a woman. No, The American political system is a gap in my knowledge.

If anyone would state such a thing, it would not reflect upon you, Mix.

I am not saying the above simply as we are female.

I am saying is as it is the truth.

Electoral college - a group of people, selected or appointed by other people, who represent the states and vote according to what they have been directed to do.

If they do, or don't, vote as directed, I have no proof of either.

I have an opinion but am trying to keep it to myself as I like it here!

Our state, Colorado, had voting machine crashes. I read Ohio, Texas and New York also experienced issues.

The new way to protest polling places is to do so topless!

This situation is one for the record books!

Internationally much of the media have thrown their hands up in horror at the American election result.

I would suggest non-Americans mind their own business as the result was what the American electorate wanted (at least those who chose Trump, it was), it was THEIR decision to make and what the rest of the world may think, it is collectively none of their business.

Good luck America (and that is no sarcasm).

We're going to need it. I have voted in every presidential election since I was 18, and I can honestly say I have never before been actually frightened of the outcome. I fear for the next four years and the future of my country.

C30. It's for Americans to decide. It's their business, I agree, but it's hard not to take an interest in something so important happening in the world. We've had hours of TV and radio on it today. I listened to Trump's acceptance speech and his plans to build all over the USA to provide work for people and growth for the economy seem rather Keynesian, which is interesting.

The last few posts were very close to the mark of what is considered unacceptable by FT standards: political commentary. As a moderator I would ask that contributors be very circumspect in their wording of such posts. I have not deleted any posts yet.
I would suggest similar comments are better served being discussed in another forum.
