I DO remember albums very well & I just now saw this thread or I would have responded sooner! The first album I remember getting was by ABBA. They were at the height of their popularity when I was a kid & I loved them! Still do. I begged my parents for their latest album & they got it for me with allowance that they owed me so I actually did buy it myself. Do any of you remember 45 records? I'll never forget the time when my older sister actually bought me the 45 record of "Dancing Queen" for Christmas one year because she knew how much I liked them & their music. It will always stick in my memory because it was one of the very few times that she was ever nice to me!

The first album I ever bought was "After the Lovin'" by Engelbert Humperdinck. I was fourteen and I'd had to wait *ages* to buy it, at least six months! Cost me two babysitting gigs, and was worth every minute!

The first album I bought when I was about 9 was some compilation of hits including "Telstar", "Speedy Gonzalez" and "I remember you". I can't remember what else was on it now. I remember the first single I bought was a beatles' song "From Me to You". I was pleased because it was cheaper than I'd expected and when I played it I knew why. It was a cover version. That taught me an early lesson as a consumer.

I THINK it was Every Face Tells A Story by Cliff Richard or Tea For The Tillerman by Cat Stevens. I'm not sure which was first.

Probably Meet The Beatles, or maybe an album by The Four Seasons.

I'm pretty sure it was Alice Cooper "Greatest Hits", the one released in 1974. It was probably 1979-80, I was 10-11 years old, and had already been a huge Alice Cooper fan for a whopping third of my life at that point!
Good ol' Alice.

I can't remember exactly, but there are a few that I started out with that just fascinated me and made me grow my hair long and start smoking things with my pals during the brief period before I served my country for four years.

Those would be A Day at the Races from Queen, Sabotage from Black Sabbath, Rumours from Fleetwood Mac, Sin After Sin from Judas Priest, and, of course, Funkentelechy vs. the Placebo Syndrome from Parliament. Don't step on my funk, y'all!

Introducing the Kingston Trio with their megahit "Tom Dooley" They were one of the top groups back in the day and very important in bringing folk music to the general public. Without them, there probably would be no Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, etc. Oddly, they aren't played on Oldies Rock or mentioned much in Rock Anthologies, but they were played on AM radio back in the day.
