Okay, since this may be moved here from the main thread...I'll start a thread for Eurovision here!

There is no other event that comes close to describing Eurovision here in the Good Old USA!

Yes, yes, yes, an actual thread. Last night I was loving the song of the guy from San Marino. What a shame he's dropped out...

Truly awful! Death is preferable to watching The European Song Contest.

There's no need to gloat over your good fortune!

I used to always watch it, great entertainment! Not the same without Terry though, I haven't watched it for a couple of years now.

I'll be watching it this year as Joe Woolford (from the UK's 'Joe & Jake') is my son's old football coach!

I agree, it's not the same without Sir Terence of Wogan though!

I found it quite boring this year, watched about 10 acts and there were no really loony ones, so turned it off. Bring back the Russian Grannies!

I wouldn't mind so much if it WERE about which is the best song.........it is all about political brownie points and is usually won by whichever nation has upset the least number of countries. The actual song is irrelevant...........all IMO of course!

I was watching on BBC iplayer so I could skip any boring sections. I only heard a few seconds of the Portuguese song as I skipped it. I was surprised when it won and that it won so emphatically. However he seems a genuine guy and it was nice he was singing with his sister. We were informed that over the whole competition he missed some rehearsals as he had a hernia operation and he has heart problems. So young to be so ill.

As C30 says , its all about geographical or political alliances these days , the quality of song is at most secondary . I do wonder if the competition has any relevance these days , I couldn't name a winner since the 80's or 90's , but then given my choice of music hardly surprising I guess .
It has maybe run its course , or at least for the UK it has . Maybe we should organise our own just for the UK and forget this Europe thing .....wouldn't be the first time in recent history :). At least we might win .

I don't think you can say it was about political alliances this year as the votes for Portugal came from all around Europe - from most of the countries participating in fact.
