I'm still trying to figure out what Desolation Row, Visions of Johanna, Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands, and Tangled Up in Blue are derivatives from. Reply #22. Oct 14 16, 10:16 AM |

Although this is only the tip of the iceberg as they say, this article and its comments will give you an idea of Bob Dylan's borrowing from other artists. He also stole several songs folk singer Paul Clayton. http://ask.metafilter.com/122822/What-songs-did-Bob-Dylan-steal-from Reply #23. Oct 14 16, 12:10 PM |

Give it up, daver. Take a deep breath and repeat after me, "Bob Dylan was and still is a great poet and is very deserving of his Nobel Prize." Don't you feel better now? Reply #24. Oct 14 16, 2:04 PM |

There's a fine line between stealing and borrowing. Borrowing is a tradition in folk music. I believe the following contains some Dylan "borrowings" that may have been missed in your linked article. Anyway I should say that Martin Carthy is a nice chap and has forgiven Dylan and Paul Simon for "nicking" Scarborough fair from him, after they heard him play it, though Carthy did not write it. It's a traditional old song. Dylan nicked the tune and Paul Simon nicked the song.https://folkchris.wordpress.com/2013/01/05/the-borrowing-not-stealing-tradition/ Reply #26. Oct 14 16, 3:43 PM |

daver, I would be interested to know what qualifications you have that would make you more capable of awarding this prize than the Nobel Committee. Also, I don't think that the fact that Dylan has won a Nobel Prize will cause the collapse of the literary canon as we know it. Reply #27. Oct 14 16, 4:08 PM |
