Subject: Favourite Album Titles

Even if the album itself isn't necessarily one of your favourites, pick one with a title you think is cool or funny or clever etc.

I've always liked Dizzy Up The Girl by Goo Goo Dolls

Haven't heard Miles Of Aisles for years Blackdresss, and it was when I really hadn't got into her songs like I have now. I think I was still listening to lesser talents on Top 40 radio. I'll have to find that album and listen again, this time with appreciative ears. That woman is soooooo gifted.

Court And Spark by Joni. Another great album title. And another great album.

Hey SFJ. I'll pass on the news about your emotional reaction to the Moody's induction to Justin. I just hope he doesn't look at me and say, "Who the heck are you, everytime I want to have lunch by myself in this restaurant, you keep sitting at my table uninvited! Bugger off gitface!", like he did last time.

What I find really puzzling is why is he having lunch in Adelaide so often?
I'll have to ask him.

Sectant, I love Joni Mitchell, and have all of her albums on vinyl and CD, except one. And I can't find it anywhere. I don't even know if it has a name. I'm thinking it was maybe only released in Canada -- is that even possible?

I don't think it's "Ladies Of The Canyon" because that has a name. Let me see if I can find the album cover, so I can tell you what it is...

It's definitely "Ladies Of The Canyon." On the site I just looked at, in one photo of the album, it has a title. In another photo, it has no title. And that's the only one I don't have.

Which can't possibly be true, because I know all the songs on that album, so now I've thoroughly confused myself.

Let me do a little more looking.

I love "Clouds" and "Blue" and "Court and Spark" and "For The Roses" and... hmmmm... Let me take a look at "Song To The Seagull." Maybe that's the one I don't have.

No, that's not it. That has "Marcie" and "Sisotowbell Lane," two songs I love.

"Marcie's faucet needs a plumber
Marcie's sorrow needs a man"

I'll figure it out, I hope. I know, absolutely, there is one album I do not have, but not for lack of trying. And yes, Joni is brilliant. So I have no idea why Nazareth decided to do a cover of "This Flight Tonight." It makes no sense to me, at all, when I listen to it.

Just saw this album title in a quiz and think it's awesome, although I've never heard any of it and don't know the artist.

"Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" by Sarah McLachlan

sectant... no lie, I literally had a dream I went to a Moody Blues concert but only Justin was there. I kept trying to get a picture of him but then I had to stop some obsessed fan of his from getting on stage with him. Perhaps my subconscious was telling me to tone my giddiness down a bit... I'll have to remind my subconscious who is the boss around here!
(Just ignore this. I'm not crazy. Right? Haha)

So that was you that kept stopping me from getting on the stage!!!! It wasn't a dream SFJ, it really happened!

If it's any consolation, Justin thinks it's me that's crazy and says you're probably okay. Charming! I go out of my way to intrude on his lunch, I do all the legwork, get kicked out of the restaurant for invasion of privacy, on an empty stomach mind you, didn't even get to eat my ravioli, and he has the nerve to say I'm crazy but you're okay. These damn fool musicians!!

Note to everyone else...DO NOT TAKE ANY OF THIS SERIOUSLY. I HAVE NEVER SEEN JUSTIN HAYWARD, WOULD NEVER INTRUDE ON SOMEONE'S LUNCH AND WOULD NEVER ATTEMPT TO JUMP UP ONSTAGE. I DO HOWEVER LOVE RAVIOLI.

I always mix up "Fumbling Toward Ecstasy" with "Countdown To Ecstasy" by Steely Dan. Not when I'm listening to them; just when I think of the titles.

I like the album cover design on the Steely Dan album, too. In fact, I love it. I'd like to have it framed and on my wall.

I was going to mention "Countdown" and then forgot. But just the band name should get Honorable Mention. I may have to write a "Song From Song Titles" from that album. That's a great one.

"Show Biz kids making movies
Of themselves you know they
Don't give a f**k about anybody else"

I heard on the radio on my way home yesterday that the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan are going to be touring together. With free tickets to be given away, which makes me thing it might be a summer Fair thing, and I just missed that part of the big announcement.

I didn't think Steely Dan ever toured? I was certain they were strictly a studio band. With two actual living band members.

As much as I love them both, I don't think I'd want to see them in concert today, anywhere. It kind of just sounds sad.

Countdown to Ecstasy is probably my favourite Steely Dan album. How can you go wrong with Bodhisattva, Show Biz Kids and The Boston Rag?

And I guess it would be sad now that Walter Becker's left us.

Come to think of it, it's hard to choose. Pretzel Logic and Aja are up there as well.

You can't go wrong with "Countdown To Ecstasy." It's one of those perfect albums. Somewhere, I have a list of those, too. There aren't a lot of them, if you think about it. All of the songs have to be perfect to be on my list. One bad song, and the entire album is off the "perfect" list.

If you'd like, I'll find where I posted my list? You could add to it. Music is the universal language! And it soothes the savage beast. It always soothes me, unless it fires me up. I'm fine with either and both.

You're not having much luck are you Blackdresss? I think you meant "soothe the savage breast." It's one of those often incorrectly used quotes, like "money is the root of all evil" which is actually "the love of money is the root of all evil."

That's a brilliant idea, to come up with the perfect album. No filler tracks. Start a thread on it and I'll join in.

No, I did mean "soothe the savage beast," because I didn't know I had it wrong! But now I do, and I actually like being wrong, because this is an interesting way to learn.

I do know that "The love of money is the root of all evil," though, and not just "money."

But as for luck? Not tonight, I'm not!

Somewhere in here, we started a list of "Perfect Albums." I'll try to find it. It's probably in the Buddy Holly Blog, and my list is fairly long. Longer than I thought it would be, once I got going.

I can think of a few.

Hotel California -- The Eagles

Aqualung -- Jethro Tull

Appetite for Destrution -- Guns N Roses

Skid Row -- Skid Row

Sticky Fingers -- The Rolling Stones

Veedon Fleece -- Van Morrison

Fragile -- Yes

Now that's interesting because I have always thought the constant presence of the title track of Hotel California everywhere you turn here, on the radio, on other people's radios, in shopping centres where they pipe music through tinny speakers etc. is what spoils the entire album. Like Bohemian Rhapsody spoils A Night At The Opera for the same reason. I do however love the live version of the Hotel California title track, it's all acoustic and played at a slower tempo, sort of like a tango.

To me, THE most perfect album of the rock era is At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band. It's a live recording but I'm assuming it still counts.

From the pre-rock era, Songs For Swingin' Lovers, Frank Sinatra Sings For Only The Lonely, Nice 'N' Easy, Swing Easy, In The Wee Small Hours are my desert island discs. All by Sinatra of course.

Meanwhile....another good album title...Remote Control by The Tubes, probably because it ties in with the tv theme.

That would be so cool to create a "perfect album". You'd have to think hard about the first song... what would be the perfect intro to the best album ever? Same thing with the last song... what song leaves you feeling so good about the entire album?
Love "Hotel California" but if I had to choose... I might have to go with The Eagles' "Heartache Tonight". That's REALLY hard, though!

Well done Daniel with a zillion a's, those kinds of song titles are perfect for this thread. Don't know most of the songs or bands, are they as good as the titles?

Does the Mister Potato Head theme count as a song? Memories of my childhood tv viewing.

I think live albums count, if they are perfect. You love every song, and can listen to them in order.

I'm adding to my list, which is far from finished:

"Then and Now" -- Nazareth (it's a live album)

"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" -- Elton John

@sectant, well they're all albums I enjoy, no guarantees everyone else will! There's a lot of genre diversity in that list, from metal to rap to freak folk, so I'm sure there would be a couple for everyone to enjoy.

Ding Dong, The Dead Is Which? by The Munchkin Zombies

(Sorry, I made that one up. I'm off to start a thread on made up album titles and bands. Do join in!!)
