Subject: Write A Haiku

Posted by: UmberWunFayun
Date: Aug 13 18

Haiku is a beautiful form of Japanese poetry, where the feelings evoked by the words are the most important thing. Traditionally containing references to nature, weather, or the elements, nowadays a modern haiku can have any subject, as long as it follows the strict rhythm of three lines, containing 5, 7, and 5 syllables for a total of 17. Showcase your creative side, let out the poet within, and Impress us all with your writing skills! To start you off, here's my favourite modern haiku :

Why is the Haiku
always based on seventeen?
Discrimination!

The foolish hobgoblin of...
...Whoops, mixed up my quotes.

Nature all around
It's been all around for years
Trees, clouds, it's all there

Thanks for welcome Um
Better a short sharp Haiku
Than a long long verse

And Wesley Crusher
Your cat wears a robe and crown
Fancy dress party?

Horror movies rock
You can't beat the old time greats
Halloween was one

Nightmare On Elm Street
(I know I missed off the A)
Was one of the best

Poltergeist - They're here!
Near Dark, The Thing, Fright Night, and
Alien - my fave

The scariest film
Of my whole entire childhood
Involved a big shark

Selachophobic
Thanks to you, Peter Benchley
But I still love 'Jaws'

Shade trees are calming,
if only I can find them;
But where is the time?

Haiku is my muse,
Japan my favorite country;
It is not so hard.

The scariest film
Is The Exorcist by far
Nothing scarier

Jaws has comedy
To help relieve the tension
But scary bits rock

Way back in the day
My friend's four year old sister
Watched The Exorcist

Great parenting skills!
But she didn't understand
And laughed all through it

But another film
Gave the poor kid such nightmares
What? Watership Down!

It just goes to show
We all have our own idea
Of what 'scary' means

Demon possession
Of a young girl is scary
But bunnies are worse

Did your friend's sister
Watch Fatal Attraction too?
Bunny in that one.

Seriously though
Wrong age to watch Exorcist
Where did she watch it?

Saw Director's Cut
As well as first release print
No new scares at all

Writing Haikus seems
Easier than Limericks
And just as much fun
