Subject: Gordon Lightfoot Has Died

I was very saddened to hear this terrible news yesterday. He was 84 years old and died May 1st. No cause of death was given. I loved his music for many years and he was a very talented man. I loved the songs The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and If You Could Read My Mind among others. He will be missed. Rest in peace.

Poor old Gordy, he had a good run and left us with some wonderful remembrances. His music was part of the fabric of our Canadian lives. I'm sure I'm not the only one constantly hummin' Lightfoot songs this week. We'll miss you, old pal.

And not only in Canada, but down here in the U.S. also. A couple of my all-time favorites which haven't yet been mentioned here are Early Morning Rain and Sundown.

His popularity certainly reached beyond the Canadian borders. I saw him in concert at Carnegie Hall, in 1979. He was a wonderful musical story teller. Sorry he's gone.
