Subject: Accomplishments and Goals

Posted by: kyleisalive

As we close out 2023, I just wanted to check in and see if anyone has any authoring accomplishments they're proud of for the past year or if they have any resolutions for 2024 they'd like to embark upon.

I had a weirdly up-and-down year real-life work wise and it left me with a big window of free time in the summer to enjoy whatever I wanted. Somehow, this year, I:

- Cleared out all my Adoptions-- did 55 of them to close out the badge.
- Manage to do all the Author Masterpiece painting requirements for the year.
- Finished out the 'Current' badge.
- Wrote in every category at least once.
- Had twenty quizzes placed online every month (25 the last two) with the aim to hit 250 online for the year. Still a few to write and get online there!

Next year I'm hoping to get more headway on Polymath sections I'm lacking in and continuing to get paintings done. I want to get through a number of Author Challenge titles to plug away at that badge, but besides that, I'm hoping to be a little more freeform. No need for monthly number goals for me this year. :D

I adopted 18 quizzes this year (19 total). This helped me get back into quiz writing. The new quiz formats also helped with that. The past few years, I only wrote a few.

I'm happy to have been able to fill my gallery with twelve framed paintings. I hope to be able to continue meeting the gallery requirements each month.

I'm also happy to have written at least one quiz in each new format.

I wrote more quizzes this year than I have in a long time. I was also happy to fill out my gallery with all framed paintings.

I hadn't participated in the November quiz writing month in a while, and it was a joy to be a part of that event this year as well.

I managed to get all the framed paintings too - it was a real incentive and will continue to be. I've written far more quizzes than usual - at 95 online for the year at present (pales into insignificance compared to Kyle!). I'd like to reach 100 but don't think I'll make it.

I'm working towards some tiers on the rainbow author challenges, although VG remains a target too far. Adoptions help for the categories I like least. My resolution for next year is to stop being such a wuss over label quizzes and try to do some more!

It has taken me almost 10 years, but today at long last, I've just submitted crossword number 1,000.

Amazing milestone!

The first 1,000 submissions are the hardest. The next set'll be much easier. ;)

Thanks for posting this thread, kyle, it's a great topic!

I wrote more quizzes this year than I thought I would--over 60. I got all of the paintings, although not all of them were framed. I managed to fight my way through TRIC in just a few months, and progressed significantly in Adventures in Authoring. I also had fun contributing to the 2023 community challenge, and QuiWriMo!

Next year I'm hoping to continue to work for the paintings. I'm also aiming at (finally!) writing a second Video Games quiz to get my final authoring category badge. Other than that, I'll still be chipping away at Adventures in Authoring and, hopefully, writing some stuff that I want to just for the fun of it!

Thanks for the encouragement Kyle, but I aim to concentrate elsewhere now that I've reached my goal :-)

BTW, I mean't to say that I am in awe of the work that you have accomplished this year, especially as it's in addition to your regular attention to editing demands!

It has taken me almost 10 years, but today at long last, I've just submitted crossword number 1,000.

Though my number is far fewer I have had multiple times where I planned to pause for a hot minute thinking I wouldn't be able to come up with more titles.

Well done moonraker2, that is an awesome effort.

My plans were to get my totals of both quizzes and crosswords online to 500. Succeeded with the quizzes but not the CWs

I'm a little workshy compared to everyone else who has posted but I'm very proud of my eight quizzes that I got online this year (with another submitted). Across those eight quizzes I used five different quiz formats, three for the first time, and got two thumbs.

Most importantly of all though, in what has been a pretty awful year offline, I've rediscovered the bug of authoring and the joy of one idea spawning about 20 others. 2024 is the year I resolve to get some of my oldest templates finished.

I am a victim of 'too many ideas sitting and waiting'. This last year I cleared out templates I've had sitting since the start of COVID. It's a nice personal accomplishment to see them through. :)

All but two of my templates are from before 2023; and one is filled in and another is half-done.

"Too many ideas sitting and waiting" is one of my problems too. Some of my templates are even older than COVID! I hope to clear some in the new year, starting with the rest of the adopted quizzes that I was too eager to claim.

Another goal is to write enough Video Games and Religion quizzes to boost them to level two rainbow badges, which will be enough to gain another tier of 2020 is Hindsight. Have been working on that for some time now.

I managed to write at least one quiz for each of the new templates, thanks to the spur of QuiWriMo. I failed to complete my first crossword, which remains a goal for the future. My main authoring goal, though, is to get A New Life to Tier 7, if I can. I am currently one category short of Tier 5, with eight of them already qualifying for Tier 6. Excelsior!

Also hope to get another complete year's worth of framed paintings.

I just accomplished one goal by completely emptying my Works In Progress! Now I'll have a clean slate for 2024.

I have 10/12 for T5 and I am very patiently waiting lol. This one's a marathon.

I managed to tie up some loose ends and get a couple of Editors' Choices, including one for a subject I know little about (Kwanzaa). That was nice. Also halfway through the third Space Series.

I've had my most productive quiz writing year in ages, mainly because of the paintings. I've managed to get framed versions for all 12 months and hope to continue. The new quiz formats and revamped QuiWriMo helped too. For next year, I hope to make it to Tier 7 on a few more categories and upgrade some other tiers as well. I'd also like to adopt more quizzes once I've cleared my backlog.

This year I've gotten lots of authoring badges, including four editor choices. My authoring goals for 2024 would be:
- Getting at least Tier1 for Polymath. I have lots of work to do, as there are several categories I never wrote anything for yet.
- Advance in, or complete Adventures in Authoring.
- Venture into Label Quizzes and earn the related badges.
- Try to get all the monthly pictures, even if unframed.

In general, as you can see, I'm really into getting badges, so most of my goals ate based around that.
