This mural once covered the entire western side of a building at the southeast corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Hudson Avenue. 7. The American Film Institute announced the 50 greatest American screen legends on June 16, 1999. The top three men were James Stewart (#3), Cary Grant (#2) and Humphrey Bogart ranked in at #1. The top three women were Audrey Hepburn (#3), Betty Davis (#2) and Katharine Hepburn ranked in at #1.
Just under 3 years. He co-starred with Carole in 1932 in their only movie together, "No Man of Her Own". In January 1936, he met up with her again at a society party. Soon they became the most popular couple in Hollywood. On March 29, 1939 they exchanged vows only to have the marriage tragically end just under their 3rd anniversary on January 16, 1942 when Carole was killed in a plane crash.
"Somewhere I'll Find You" (1942). She died on January 16, 1942. Production on the film temporarily stopped, and receommenced on February 23rd. Ironically, the role he played in this film, Jonathan Davis, has a brother who is killed and the script contained painful lines about death. On his first day back, he announced that he would enlist in the Army Air Corps and when the filming was over, in August 1942, he enlisted. He went to England to make a motion picture of aerial gunners in action. He flew missions over Europe in B-17s to obtain combat film footage. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal and was relieved from active duty as a Major on June 12, 1944.
Epilepsy. When he was just seven months old, his mother, Adeline, died from epilepsy. He was raised by his father, William Gable and his stepmother, Jennie.
Aquarius. William Clark Gable was born on February 1, 1901 in Cadiz, Ohio.
