Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
Pratchett, Terry
The Unseen University, Sator Square. Same place as 'Gaspode the Wonder Dog' was educated. Klatchian Curry Gardens-the first place Death's horse Binky took Susan when she inherited Death's role while still in school.
Apart from the rodents themselves and Maurice, what is the name and species of the only other (known) creature to have been accidentally educated by the rubbish there? | The Amazing Maurice etc: Quiz Time!
|
Gaspode, dog. Gaspode has featured in many "Discworld" books and almost all Ankh-Morpork ones (Night Watch books, 'The Truth',) and in 'Moving Pictures'. He's small, possibly a terrier-type of dog. Spends one book trying to be a wolf and part of another ('The Truth') disguised as a poodle. The result was, according to William: '...a kind of malformed poodlosity...' He also has every disease known to dogkind including Licky End, which you only get as a pregnant sheep. Believed to still be part of the begger gang with Foul Old Ron.
Nobby is one of the three original watchmen, (Vimes, Colon and Nobby) and is probably, on balance, human, and possibly 33 (his mother wasn't very good at counting)
The Luggage belongs to Rincewind and was given to him by Twoflower, the Discs first tourist. It's made of "Sapient Pearwood" which was accidently created during the Mage Wars. Very intelligent (by wood standards), and a wizard owning even a wand or some small item made of this wood is considered very lucky (except on the Counterweight continent where it is very common.
Great A'tuin is the great star-turtle upon which the four world-elephants stand bearing the weight of the Disc on their shoulders. He/She swims apparently endlessly throughout space. All people know is that he/she is looking forward to something.
Peaches. Peaches is one of the most intelligent rats just after Dangerous Beans himself. She worries Maurice by asking all the questions he doesn't want anyone to ask. She is also one of the strongest opposers of the scheme (rats invade town, Keith shows up and pipes them out. They all get paid).
Keith. Keith isn't nearly as stupid as he looks and could be fairly ruthless when his friends were threatened. Malicia reckons he is a prince or someone as he was found abandoned on the doorstep of the Guild of Musicians as a baby.
19 pints and a Strawberry Yoghurt. According to Malicia, his life may have been very different if the yoghurt had been banana-flavoured instead. Then again it might not.
Biscuits!. It's just amazing the useless info you pick up. Then again you'll know what to do if your cat ever goes "prppt" at you.
(i.e. get out of the way if you're behind it)
Olly. He wears a little coller and bowtie and is the 'villain' of the series
Rupert is the Rat and Fred is the Farmer. Lenny is made-up.
3. Maurice gives one of his own lives for Dangerous Beans when Death came for them. (He also attacked the Grim Squeaker). In the end they both survived.
The Blue Cabbage. When the real piper came to town, he demanded three sausages, slightly burnt and the Mayor. Both Watchmen wanted to go for the Mayor as "the Mayor's free, Mrs. Shover'll want paying"
Agoniza and Eviscera. The Sisters Grim who wrote most of the Real Fairystories on the Disc including the one where the villain gets stabbed in the eye with a frozen haddock by his wife. Malicia has apparantly inherited the storytelling talents (as well as the family propensity for unfortunate names)
Additives. Additives had a speech impediment which meant he couldn't speak properly. Maurice ate him all except for "the tail and the green wobbly bit and the nasty purple lump, no-one knows what it is!" He has felt incredibly guilty (for a cat) ever since.
The sugar. Keith wanted to put actual poison into the sugar...
Cascara. A powerful laxitive. Keith spends a good few minutes telling the Ratcatchers exactly what's going to happen i.e. with regards to their stomachs melting, and their brains coming out their noses...
Cascara. Malicia only left enough for one person.
Keith: What was it you put in the sugar?
Malicia: Cascara
-----
Keith: What did you give them for the antidote?
Malicia: Cascara
Nourishing. A small nervous female rat, Nourishing was nontheless fairly intelligent and became the first rat to gnaw through a trapwire (theraby saving Darktan's life).
Nourishing. The 'back-up plan' involved simply setting fire to the entire place.
Jacko. Darktan bites him on the 'unmentionables' during Hamnpork's rescue and he rapidly loses interest in rats and tries to escape. Until Darktan, Jacko had been well known as the best ratter around. The bet was on him killing 100 rats in 15 minutes.
Killer is the name of Aunt Marges dog in the 'Harry Potter' series.
Dog is the name of the Hellhound in 'Good Omens' by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaimen.
Queequeg is the small fluffy evil-minded rat-thing belonging to Scully in the 'X-Files'. It gets eaten by an alligator.
Nugent Brothers Breakback Mk.1. A trap from the dawn of time, according to Darktan. Before that, the earliest he had ever seen was a Mk. 7. He becomes the first known rat to ever escape from a trap, but bears the scar for the rest of his life.
Spider. No-one knows why it calls itself Spider, but it was an insane tangle of telepathic rats that could control minds, from Rat to Human.
Dick Livingstone. Livingston is the one written by Agoniza and Eviscera. Dick Whittington is the name of the original boy. Dick Pidgeonkiller is made up but Pidgeons is what Malicia says the Puss killed (it was actually rats but she didn't want to say this to Keith). Dick Rattington is uh..just there.
Ubergurgl. Lancre is currently ruled in an easy-going fashion by Verence II and Queen Magrat, originally the Fool and the Maiden (from the local coven, Maiden-the youngest witch- Nanny was the Mother and Granny was...the other one.
London belongs to the Dick Whittington version of the tale.
Aglets. The Ratcatchers told people that the rattails were diseased and would make the legs of the terminally curious drop off so people wouldn't get too close and notice that they wern't really tails. There was a reward of half a doller per tail.
Lord Mayor. Maurice went off down the river, beat up the local cat population before finding what he wanted, a young boy leaving with a hanky tied to a stick (with all his worldy goods in), and offered him a Lord Mayorship.
Thanks for playing! :)
