The Magician's Nephew
Charn. Jadis was the Queen of Charn before she destroyed it with the deplorable word.
Jadis. Queen Jadis reappears in later books as one of the main characters.
Digory ringing the bell with the hammer. Polly thinks that ringing the bell isn't a good idea, but Digory restrains her and rings it anyway.
The one that brought them back to London. They enter the one back to London, because Polly wants to make sure they are able to get back to their original homes. After this they travel to Charn.

Wood between the Worlds. Polly was sent first and Digory had to follow. When they got there they were very relaxed and felt very sleepy.
Green and Yellow. These rings are what make travelling to the different worlds possible.

Uncle Andrew's. This was the big mistake they made, and caused them to start their big journey.
Polly's. This is the setting for the two children's first adventure where they make a big mistake.

Digory. Digory is the other main character in the book.
Polly. Polly is one of two main characters in the book.
He gave it to his mom so that she could be healed from her illness. His mom was very sick from the beginning of the story, and once he got to Narnia he wanted to ask Aslan to help his mom become better. In the end, it finally happened.
A Silver Apple. This fruit is very special and it only grows from one tree very far away. That is why Digory and Polly have to ride Fledge to get there.
Fledge. Strawberry is given wings and a new name from Aslan; that name is Fledge.
Two. These animals are also the leaders of their individual species.
Aslan's. This is another amazing event. Aslan sings a beautiful song and everything turns from a barren wasteland into beautiful fields and forest.
A lamp post. Everyone is amazed that when the Queen throws the arm at Aslan, it falls to the ground and the new lamp post starts to grow instantly.
The arm of a lamp post. The Queen hits many people with her weapon before she is grabbed by Digory and brought back to the Wood between the Worlds.
Strawberry. The owner of this horse has a big role later in the book.
A horse. This was a horse that was meant to pull a cab. The cab was still attached when the Queen arrived and it crashed into Digory's front porch.

Whoever is touching the person that touches the ring, also comes with them to the Wood between the Worlds. The Queen is holding on to Polly's hair; this is why she comes with them to the Wood between the Worlds. The Queen becomes really out of breath when she's not in her own world.
The cabby and his wife. The cabby and his wife were the first King and Queen of Narnia. They were called King Frank and Queen Helen.
He had to plant an apple that would turn into a tree.. Aslan told Digory that he had to plant a tree that would protect Narnia from Jadis. Digory had to pick an apple from the top of the mountain so that Jadis would always stay away.
Strawberry was turned into a flying horse, and he flew him up there.. Aslan turned Strawberry into a flying horse, and he flew Digory and Polly up to the top of the mountain. Strawberry was also re-named Fledge.
Aslan sang to the empty land.. When Aslan sang, the world of Narnia was created. The more he sang, different things began to appear.
He had the Magician's Mark on him.. Jadis knew that Digory wasn't a magician because he didn't have the Mark. She also knew that Uncle Andrew was a magician because he did have the Mark on him.
She held onto Polly's hair when she touched the ring.. Jadis held onto Polly's hair as she touched her ring, so Jadis was pulled back to the Wood Between the Worlds with Polly.
She spoke the Deplorable Word.. Jadis spoke the Deplorable Word with all of the proper ceremonies, and it destroyed every living thing in Charn except for herself.
He knew that if he didn't, for the rest of his life he would be wondering what would have happened.. Digory knew that he would always wonder what would have happened if he had struck the bell, because that was what the poem had said. Digory thought that if he got home without seeing what would have happened, he would be driven mad by always thinking about it.

They wanted to make sure that the rings worked, and that they could get home.. Polly was afraid that the rings might not work, and that they wouldn't be able to get back to London after they had finished exploring the other worlds. Digory and Polly jumped into the pool that led back to London, and they switched their rings when they could see London.
They bring you to the Wood Between the Worlds.. The yellow rings bring you to the Wood Between the Worlds. The green rings bring you to any world from the pools in the Wood Between the Worlds.
Aslan sent them. Aslan sent them to the Wood between the Worlds and gave them a warning, and a command. Then he sent them to London.
