Circle of Magic
Tris. Briar was the one to suggest it. He had noticed magic in the fever solution, and wanted to see if Tris saw it too.
Sandry. The four young mages convinced Rosethorn and Lark to let them take the dog back to Discipline. They named the dog Little Bear, because that's what it reminded them of.
Briar. Briar knew something was not right about Aymery, so he went through his belongings. He noticed Aymery had many things that a normal university student would not be able to afford.
Blue Trader. Blue Traders were Traders of the sea, White was Trader's of the land. The other two don't exist.
Lady Sandrilene fa Toren. Sandry was a noble, and therefore had a long name. Duke Vedris IV, of Emelan, was her great uncle.
willowbark. The mage who had accidentally created the disease was trying to make a diet potion. She made it resistant to willowbark, so that the first time you got a headache and made tea, the potion wouldn't stop working.
Tris. Daja's gift was with metal, Sandry's was weaving, Briar's was with plants, and Tris was a weather witch
Lark. Lark taught her to weave, and to spin thread.
iron covered with brass. The brass cap of Daja's old Trader staff melted in her hand, in the forest fire. It became like a second skin, which gave her the idea for the leg. When she peeled it off, it grew back, so she peeled off enough to make a leg for Polyam.
earring. Even after destroying the pirate leader's ship, Tris was haunted by the awful encounters that happened that week.
Kirel. Kirel was frightened after he dropped red-hot metal, and Daja picked it up with her bare hands, not even flinching.
crimson. Rosethorn's thumbprint turned white the day after a novice accidentally spilled the concentrated disease on her. If it turned white, that meant they had the blue pox.
Who was the Water Dedicate who came to help Rosethorn and Briar care for the ill, while they were in quarantine? | An Easy Circle of Magic Quiz
|
Henna. Henna became afflicted with the disease after Briar and Rosethorn were out of quarantine, and died.
yellow. Since Daja was considered bad luck, they chose Polyam to negotiate with her. Polyam had to be covered with yellow paint, and for 10 days after the negotiation she had to follow the caravan and wash herself in every stream, until she was purified.
the dark. After being hidden in the dark so long, she almost went blind the first time she came back into the light. After recovering, she was afraid of the dark. Daja, Tris, and Briar trapped light in a crystal for her, so that she wouldn't need a lamp at night.
Glassfire. Aymery got into a spot of trouble gambling, and was soon in servitude for the pirates. The pirates changed their mind upon attacking Winding Circle, however, and killed Aymery.
Roach. He was to be sent to the docks for lifetime servitude, after being caught stealing 3 times. Niko rescued him from this fate, but Briar had to choose a new name to go to Winding Circle. He chose Briar Moss, for the moss in the jail cell, and the briars he had tangled with before.
nothing. Daja was the only one from her family to survive a shipwreck, so according to Trader customs, she was bad luck, and could not associate with other Traders.
Pirisi. Sandry was trapped for a long time. Pirisi was killed, and Sandry's parents were already dead from the smallpox epidemic. Sandry did her first magic to get light in threads, after her oil lamp burned out.
"The Circle Opens". In "The Circle Opens" series, Sandry, Tris, Daja, and Briar all become teachers. Be sure to read all the books! Hope you had fun taking this quiz!
None of the answers is correct. If you answered "Her uncle", you were pretty close. Duke Vedris is actually her great-uncle. Duke Vedris is also the ruler of Emelan, where the majority of the stories are located.
"Kaq". A "kaq" is the lowest kind of non-Trader, literally "dirt under foot". A "saati" is a non-Trader friend of heart, as dear as family. "Tsaw'ha" is the Trader name for themselves, literally "the People". A "xurdin" is a non-Trader mage. All this information is found in the third book of the quartet: Daja's book.
Trisana Chandler. Only Crane and Tris's cousin Uraelle (whom we never meet in this series) calls her by "Trisana".
Earthquake, pirate attack, fire, blue pox. Sandry, Tris, Daja, Briar, and Little Bear were trapped underground when the biggest earthquake had struck. Tris's cousin Aymery had let the pirates into Winding circle after putting a sleeping powder in the food. The fire mage Yarrun Firetamer, under the services of Lady Inoulia fa Juzon, had ignored the flames hidden under the cover of the forest. A mage named Eilisa Pearldrop tried "to create a potion to consume body fat, making it dissolve in wastes and in sweat." - Rosethorn, Briar's Book.
She then dumped it in the sewers, creating the blue pox.
Roach. Weevil was the leader of Briar's gang. Viper and Slug were two other members. The street guards caught the gang while they were stealing when Slug forgot to look out for the guards. Weevil was sent to the docks for work, Viper and Slug got sent to either "the mines, or galleys, or shipyards." -Roach a.k.a. Briar, Sandry's Book.
Her cousin. Lady Inoulia fa Juzon is Sandry's cousin by marriage. Sandry is an only child and her full name is Sandrilene fa Toren, and her mother died of the smallpox when Sandry was young.
Aymery. Kirel is Frostpine's assistant and student, just like Daja. Enahar is the pirate-mage who lauches an attack on Winding Circle, damaged by an earthquake. Gorse is in charge of the kitchens at Winding Circle.
All of them (Niko, Crane, Frostpine). The most well-known great mages are Lark, Rosethorn, Niko, Crane, and Frostpine. Lark is known for weaving, Rosethorn and Crane are known for their knowledge of medicine and plants, Niko is known for his ability to see into the past and future (only for a short time though), and Frostpine is known as a smith, able to handle red-hot metal with his bare hands.
Niko. Niko is considered the world's greatest mage. His full name is Niklaren Goldeye. "I'm sure Master Niko would act as truthsayer.... That is part of your skills, isn't it, Niko?"
- Duke Vedris, Sandry's book.
Rosethorn and Lark lives in the cottage named Discipline, and Moonstream is the Dedicate Superior who runs Winding Circle.
No mercy at all. This is a sobering thought which is all too often seen in life.
This comes from chapter 6 of "Healing in the Vine".
"'This really, really reeks! Lakik's mercy to the blue pox and whatever sent it!' He ran upstairs with his shakkan, fighting the urge to cry like a baby. The problem was that he was already seeing Lakik's mercy, which was no mercy at all."
Kanzan. Evvy makes some heat and light up as she is fleeing from the Vipers. This is in Chapter 3 of "Street Magic".
"She rested her head on her knees, praying to Kanzan, goddess of healing, for her sight to return."
Yanna Healtouch is the goddess of healing in "Magic Steps" and Lark calls upon Yanna Pain-Taker, the goddess of medicine and healers in "Healing in the Vine".
Humm, bit of confusion there? Maybe it's just the different cultures' names for the same god.
