"Yours wasn't the only father killed, Miss Whitlaw.". Rick Medina was John Medina's father. Although Rick was valued by the CIA, John was prized and considered "classified." For fear of exposure, he couldn't live a normal life so he had to work behind the scenes. Rather than kill Senator Lake outright, he wanted to know Lake's part in his father's death, and as it turns out, Lake had the older Medina killed.
Senator Lake. When Hilley realized that Chastain was saying that Lake had his brother killed, he wanted to see the book for himself. Rather than let him, Senator Lake killed him.

It was Dexter's kill book and Lake hired Dexter to kill his brother. Lake's older brother was supposed to be the "heir" to the Lake dynasty, but once he was killed Stephen Lake stepped up to become senator and planned to be president. Before he could continue in his quest, he had to get rid of Dexter, the only other person who knew what he'd done.
He was the right hand man of Senator Lake. Apparently he more than a lackey; he was a gofer, mercenary, hired killer, cleaner, adviser, and nurse all in one deadly package.

His job with the CIA. Apparently, the CIA got the nickname "pickle" because they were always in a pickle, get it?
A can of hairspray. She managed to blind him with the hairspray and escape into the hallway, where two responding officers shot and killed him.
He thought she turned her father out onto the streets.. Of all the homeless American citizens, more than a third suffer from mental and physical disabilities. Rather than deal with these issues, a lot of the relatives choose to send the disabled away and this is what Chastain believed Karen had done.

Rick Medina. In an interesting twist, both Whitlaw and Medina were in the army at the same time, until Medina was hired to kill Whitlaw after he went rogue. Unfortunately, Medina was murdered mere seconds after killing Whitlaw.
Jaine. The book is written from Jaine's perspective. It details her friends, their creation of the list, her job, her neighbours, her family and her relationship with Sam.
Parkinson's. When Sam wanted a fast wedding with no engagement period, Jaine said that they would have to wait because her parents were busy touring Europe. The had gone to Europe because Jaine's dad had Parkinson's Disease and her mother felt that this might be their last chance to be able to go.

faithful, nice and dependable. The list became became available to the public after it was accidentally shown to a friend who showed it to another person and it grew from there. The first three items on the list were faithful, nice and dependable. Other requirements for the "perfect man" were steady job, great in bed, money's nice, sense of humor, good to look at, as well as a few other physical requirements.

Hammerstead Technology. They all work at Hammerstead Technology, Jaine in the payroll department, Luna in the sales division, TJ in human resources and Marci was head of accounting. Leah works in human resources with TJ.

leftovers. In the list it was discussed what the perfect man would be like. Faithfulness, nice, dependable as well as financial qualifications were discussed. Along with these other qualifications the "list ladies" discussed the physical attributes of the perfect man. Janie said that anything over a certain amount of inches would be "leftovers".
Marci. Marci was the first one to be murdered. Luna was the second of the list ladies to be attacked. TJ was attacked at work, followed by Jaine at her sister's house. Both TJ and Janie survived their attacks.
the same woman. At the beginning of the book we are introduced to Mrs. Whitcomb, Corin's mother. Later it is discovered that Corin and Leah are the same person. Mrs. Whitcomb insisted that her child was male and introduced everyone to her son, Corin. Leah is the name that she picked for herself, after she was allowed to live as a female.
Jaine, TJ, Luna and Marci. The four friends Jaine, TJ, Luna and Marci all work for the same company and have a traditional Friday meeting for something to eat and drinks after work. This particular "meeting" is the basis of the book because this is the night that the list for the "perfect man" was created.
Yes. In exchange for information and cooperation with the CIA, Ronsard will remain in the business in return the CIA will attempt to find him a heart for Laure(his daughter). Ronsard accepts the deal and the CIA is happy with the arrangement. Neima knows that Ronsard's motivation for becoming an illegal arms dealer because he wants to save his daughter's life. He would willing cooperate with the CIA if it meant getting a replacement heart for Laure.
33 minutes. Medina and Neima are brought in to investigate the unexplained source which caused the explosion of Delta Flight 183. Delta Flight 183 from Atlanta to London exploded 33 minutes into the flight over the mountains in North Carolina; 263 people died. Although it appeared to be a internal explosion there was no evidence to suggest the theory of a bomb.
she was a double agent and a traitor. Venetia was Medina's wife. He killed her because she was a double agent and a traitor. During the Cold War she was willing to sell the names of the two highest placed moles, Aldrich and Ames, to the Kremlin for money. Medina set a trap, and shot her while she was on the telephone with the Soviet Embassy.
Basic underwater demolition/SEAL training. All CIA agents must pass BUD/S. According to Medina, it is a grueling, extensive training program, with a very low percentage actually completing the training. Both Medina and Dallas (Neima's husband) have completed and passed BUD/S.
for his daughter. Ronsard's daughter, Laure, suffers from several medical problems, As a father, he would do anything to save his daughter. The choices he felt were either being an arms dealer or a drug dealer; as he said to Neima "she is my child, the devil may have my soul, but he's welcome to it if she can live." With the money that he earns, Ronsard has put large sums into new research for cystic fibrosis, as well as searching for a black market heart.

She suffers from a defective heart, cystic fibrosis, only has one working kidney and is sometimes confined to a wheelchair. A heart transplant is almost impossible because of her size and the replacement heart would have to be from a child. Aside from her medical problems, Laure is a typical twelve-year-old girl with interests in make-up and romance.
Tumbrils. Ronsard chose his passwords from "A Tale of Two Cities," he would frequently change his password. His method of choosing a password was to find the word and fold down the page that the word was on and leave the book lying on the desk as if it had no real significance. Medina first tried Laure, Ronsard's daughter, as well as Guillotine and Monarch; the correct password was Tumbrils.
Neima's fake parents. Jacqueline and Sid are the "fake parents" of Neima Jamieson. After Neima agreed to rejoin Medina in another mission, he created an alternative personality for her, including fake parents. These "parents" were friends of the ambassador and his wife, who asked Neima to visit them at the embassy, so that she could be introduced to Ronsard. While Neima was visiting the ambassador and his wife, her "parents" were on an extended vacation in Australia.

Fifi. Medina said that his dog was Fifi. She had a long, skinny body like a dachshund, with a curly coat like a poodle. He named the dog Fifi because that is what he thought all poodle type dogs were named. This amazing dog could open doors, climb trees, really ate his homework once, loved fruit loops, was ugly, and she never existed.
1994, Iran. Neima first met Medina in Iran in 1994. Neima, her husband Dallas and Darrell Tucker (an alias for John Medina) were on a mission to destroy a factory that was creating biological warfare material that was being distributed to terrorists.
