Will will fight him in single combat and if he gives in then the fighting must stop and the townsfolk must sell them fuel. To protect the children after a Spectre attack. Since Spectres only attack adults, the children are left parentless after they attack. Two horsemen are seen riding away as fast as they can from a band of attacking Spectres. While this at first seems an act of extreme cowardice, its true reason is later revealed.
They are all missing two fingers. Will lost his two fingers when fighting Angelica and Paolo's brother. When Giacomo Paradisi showed him his two missing fingers, Will was shocked. But Giacomo knew that Will was the new bearer.
