The Langoliers. King also quotes from a poem by Stephen Crane about a creature sitting in the desert, eating its bitter heart.
Dreamcatcher. "Ooby-Ooby-Doo, where-are-ooh? We gah-sum urk oo-do-now!" Duddits loved his Scooby Doo lunchbox, and he always sang the song.
Christine. All the quotes have something to do with cars such as "I got no car and it's breakin' my heart - But I got a driver, and that's a start..." (Lennon & McCartney).
The Stand. King also quotes from "Don't Fear The Reaper", "What's That Spell", and of course "Baby, Can You Dig Your Man", among other songs.

Childe Roland. It's very long, but you can really see what inspired King.
Desperation. Desperation: a state of hopelessness leading to unregulated behavior. Desperation is also a small mining town in Nevada in this book.
Firestarter. 'Firestarter' was first published in 1980. It is about a little girl called Charlie who can light fires with her mind. It was made into a film in 1984 starring Drew Barrymore and in 2002 a TV movie sequal was made called 'Firestarter: Rekindled'.
Desperation. 'Desperation' was first published in 1996. It mentions many of the same character names as 'The Regulators', but most seem to be different people. It is about a town that is overrun by evil.
Dolores Claiborne. 'Dolores Claiborne' was first published in 1992. It is about two murders and one confession. It was made into a film in 1995 starring Kathy Bates and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Everything's Eventual. "Everything's Eventual," was a short story from "Everything's Eventual," and was good enough for Stephen King to name the collection after it.
Suffer the Little Children. This short story was in the "Nightmares and Dreamscapes," collection. This is one of my favourite short stories by Stephen King and is about a teacher who begins to realise that her entire class of children have been taken over by a strange alien race. She eventually vows to do something about it.
Here There Be Tygres. "Here There Be Tygres," is a story from "Skeleton Crew." The story is about a young boy who is frightened to go to the toilet because there is a tiger in there. Eventually the tiger eats his mean teacher. A strange one.
The Library Policeman. This short story (which is more of a novella) is in "Four Past Midnight." It is about a man who borrows a book from a deranged librarian and when he tries to return it he discovers that she doesn't work there. He is then hunted down by a strange phantom known as the library policeman for having not returned the book. Incredibly scary and one of his most graphic works. This will shock you for weeks to come.
Willa. "Willa," is a short story in one of Stephen King's most recent short story collections, "Just After Sunset." In the introduction, King claims this is the first short story he'd written after a dry period of a few years.
The Man in the Black Suit. This short story was featured in the collection "Everything's Eventual," and is an outstanding piece of work, even for Stephen King. It is about a boy who goes fishing in a set of nearby woods and meets a creepy man in a black suit. He soon begins to suspect that the man may be the devil. This is horror at its very best.
In an interview about this story, Stephen King admitted he doesn't see what all the fuss is about, as he didn't believe at the time of writing that it was very good. It has gone on to win an award and Stephen King admits he may have been short sighted.
"Morrison was waiting for someone who was hung up in the air traffic jam over Kennedy International when he saw a familiar face at the end of the bar and walked down." Which story is this from? | Stephen King Short Story Openers

Quitter's Inc. This short story was featured in the "Night Shift," collection, one of Stephen King's first short story collections. It is about a business which has a very sadistic way of making people quit smoking. After all, they do guarantee 100% success rate...no matter what. A fine story.
The Body. "The Body," is a novella from, "Different Seasons." The story is about four boys who go on an epic adventure and was later adapted into a film called, "Stand By Me."
"After the guy was dead and the smell of his burning flesh was off the air, we all went down to the beach." Which story is this from? | Stephen King Short Story Openers

Night Surf. "Night Surf," is a short story from the collection "Night Shift." It is based around the events of King's book, "The Stand," and tells the story of a group of people pulling together after the effects of Captain Trips.
"Mike Enslin was still in the revolving door when he saw Olin, the manager of the Hotel Dolphin, sitting in one of the overstuffed lobby chairs." Which story is this from? | Stephen King Short Story Openers

1408. This was an easy one if you have seen the film. "1408," was a short story in the collection, "Everything's Eventual," and was about a writer called Enslin who meets strange paranormal forces when he spends times in a haunted hotel room. It was later adapted into a film with John Cusaak and Samuel L Jackson and in my opinion it is one of the best psychological thrillers ever.
