Yes. The volcano on the island erupted, the island was destroyed, the colonists were stranded on a rock for days, then a certain ship, known by Ayrton, found them and brought them back to civilization.
Captain Nemo. Captain Nemo, from "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea", secretly lived in the island and anonymously protected the colonists.
Ayrton. Ayrton was a former criminal left on Tabor Island for punishment. He regretted what he had done and became important to the colonists.
Bonaventure. The Bonadventure was used to sail around Lincoln Island and travel to Tabor Island.
Tabor Island. Tabor Island became very important in the story.
Jupiter. Pencroft suggested Jup's name after another ape he once knew.
Spilett. Gideon Spilett was a reporter, Cyrus Harding was an engineer, Neb was Harding's loyal slave, Pencroft was a sailor, and Herbert was just a boy.
Lincoln Island. They named the island after the president of the United States, then in a Civil War.
Top. The men probably could not have survived without the help of their trusty dog, Top.
Balloon. The characters were Northern prisoners held by the Confederacy in Richmond. The officers built a balloon, and the castaways took off in it during a storm.
