in the waterfall. The rainbow was in the waterfall. When he found the picture of Emily sitting in front of the waterfall with the bird, he noticed that there was a rainbow passing underneath it, and finally understood what the children were telling him.

a dragonfly paperweight. Before the light bulb had broken Joe had taken all of Emily's clothes from the closet and set them on the bed. He had wrapped up a dragonfly paperweight, that was on the nightstand, in tissue and placed it in a box. When he got back from getting the new light bulb all the clothes were back in the closet and the paperweight was back on the nightstand.

waterfall. The squiggly cross was the map symbol for waterfall. Some of the children in the hospital who had died and then been revived kept drawing the cross and showing it to Joe. Joe discovers the meaning of the cross after the wind blows open the map for his rafting trip. He sees the design and calls a friend to ask what it means.
