He's a car salesman. We see this at the beginning of the movie. He tries to sell a convertible to a pretty blonde.

21 years. In the beginning of the movie we find Elizabeth in her bed while her mother reads her a bedtime story. After she curses because she doesn't believe the story, there is a 21 year jump to when she is trying to get back with Charles.
Phoebe Cates. Poor Elizabeth wants to get back with Charles but Fred keeps interrupting. It's a good thing that she realizes Charles is not for her, because of Fred. Fred is that inner child who lives in all of us, who no one wants to pay attention to. He shows Elizabeth the true Charles, who is a cheater.
Rik Mayall. Rik Mayall is the perfect actor for this movie because he is so funny and just so troublesome. Rik has also starred in movies like "Little Noises" and "Carry on Columbus". Fred wants a little fun and wants to play around but Elizabeth thinks that he is just ruining her life. Fred likes to have a good time, and make a funny comment once and a while. Fred likes Elizabeth and is always there when her mother treats her badly.
In her bedroom. After many years of being away from Fred, Elizabeth decides to go back to the past and take out the jack-in-the-box. When she takes off the tape, Fred appears as a green ball from the jack-in-the-box. He rolls on the floor and when Elizabeth looks under the bed, he's not there. But when she looks up, he's there.
Charles. Charles, played by Tim Matheson, says he wants to get back with Elizabeth, but he cheats on her with this other woman named Annabella. When Elizabeth finds out he is cheating on her, she dumps the "romantic salad" on him and gives him a present.

purple. When Elizabeth is in the store looking for a dress, Fred says to harpoon Charles through the head and hit him with a hammer until he agrees to come back. When she finds a dress Fred says that the dress looks like a big bruise. When they get to the restaurant, Fred makes Elizabeth do crazy things like spill water and throw plates and food.
Fred makes Elizabeth do these things in front of Mickey to make Elizabeth look crazy. He wants to have fun but he is just ruining Elizabeth's night. He also knows Mickey from when he was a kid with Elizabeth. He liked to call him "Mickey Fartpants" for fun.

All of these happened. (Elizabeth's sweater starts to fall apart., Fred breaks a window., Nigel gets arrested.). During this night, Fred comes and wakes up Elizabeth and gives her a sweater. They go down to the kitchen and start smashing stuff in a garbage bag and Fred breaks a window to escape. The mother and Nigel hear what is going on and call the police. In the middle of the call Fred and Elizabeth take the telephone out of the wall. When Nigel is about ready to go downstairs, he sees someone start to come up. It is the cop but he tackles him thinking it's the robber. He then gets arrested. They do this out of fun because Elizabeth wants to be a pretend robber.
Natalie. Elizabeth runs into Mickey after not seeing him since they were little kids. She starts to talk with him about what has happened in the years that have gone by. Mickey says he has not done too well because he got a divorce. He says he got to have custody of his daughter, Natalie. He says that Natalie acts a lot like Elizabeth did when she was her age. Then Mickey brings up the fact that Drop Dead Fred used to be her imaginary friend, and she remembers all the unusual times with Fred when she was little.
