 Hidalgo
Yes. "Hidlago" is based on rider Frank Thomas Hopkins, and his horse Hidalgo. Hidalgo is a beautiful painted wild Mustang. Frank is part Native American and part English. The movie is based on their most exciting adventure. They go and race in the Arabian desert.
Viggo Mortensen. Hopkins was a wonderful man who cared very much for his horse. He was born in 1865 and died in the 1950's. He rode unitl he was almost 80 years old. He started the first wild mustang preserve and Hidalgo's ancestors still roam free there.
locusts. Jazira said something to the effect of "think of them not as a plague, but as a sign from Allah, and eat them." Of course he ate one!
Annie Oakley and Buffalo Bill. Frank had a comedy act that sometimes appeared in Buffalo Bill's "Wild West Show".
Zuleikha Robinson. Louise Lombard played Lady Ann, Kimberly Norris played Frank's mother, and Omar Sharif played Jazira's father Sheikh Riyadh.
quicksand. In the movie, someone died from all of these disasters execpt the plague of locusts. Hopkins, being the good man he is, saved him from the quicksand despite the rider's request.
Cowboy. They call him cowboy because of his hat, and where he comes from.
all of these (loyal, godlike, majestic). The Native Americans had no real words for the horses. They saw the horses run into battle, carrying their owners until they died. Isn't that just beautiful?
3,000 miles. This is mentioned by many people talking about this race to Frank - many of them trying to talk him out of entering the race.
Ocean of Fire. The Sheik (Omar Sherif) tells Frank that it is a 3,000 mile race and is called the Ocean of Fire. This is when they first meet.
Joe Johnston. Joe Johnston was also the director of 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids' and 'Jumanji'. Richard Donner was the director of 'The Goonies', and
Nora Ephron directed 'You've Got Mail'. As of 2004, Viggo Mortensen has never directed any film.
Zuleikha Robinson. Jazira is the sheik's daughter, she is also the girl who was accused of seeing Frank for the wrong reasons. This is when she was actually giving Frank some butter for the journey, then Frank heard a noise, and protected Jazira. This was taken the wrong way.
Chief Eagle Horn. Chief Eagle Horn was very special to Frank, because the chief raised him and taught Frank the language and traditions of the Indians. The chief was like his father and guru. However, when Frank returned from Arabia, he was told that Chief Eagle Horn had died of old age.
his pistol. This was when the sheik invited Frank to meet him. The sheik always kept a gun tucked underneath his belt.
his gun. Hidalgo was badly injured when the prince set up a trap to kill him. Frank could see blood coming from Hidalgo's nose. Then Frank started singing the Indian 'Ghost Dance' which the Indians thought would protect them from any harm. The prince who tried to kill Hidalgo came to Frank and mocked him, suddenly Hidalgo stood up to finish the race.

Wounded Knee. Wounded Knee Creek is its full name. When the US Cavalry are watching the Indians do their 'Ghost Dance', it says the name at the bottom of the screen.
Whitey Grey. Katib had kidnapped the sheik's daughter, so that he could trade Jazira for Al Hattal, if the sheik refused then Katib would have cut off Jazira's head and send it to him wrapped in Baghdad silk. So Frank and the other servants of the sheik painted the neck and head of the white coloured horse, and covered the rest of the body with a horse coat. It was very cunning, but Katib noticed black paint rubbing off onto his hands. Then a fight broke out.
Frank T. Hopkins. Frank Hopkins was born to a French father and Indian mother. He is played by Viggo Mortensen, a wonderfully skilled man who also portrays Aragorn, son of Arathorn, in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy.
Blue Child. I actually don't know why he is called this. He is called this multiple times during the movie, usually by the Indian chief. If anyone does know, feel free to message me! Thanks.

No. "Mister, you can say anything you want about me, but I'm going to have to ask you not to talk about my horse that way", is what he really said. He said this while in a bar, after winning the race at the very beginning of the movie. The man that he beat comes into the bar and begins insulting Hidalgo, so Frank punches him.
To have his manhood removed. He was handcuffed to a pole and they were going to cut off his most intimate part...a very painful punishment if you ask me. Luckily he escaped this punishment because of invaders in the camp.

Ocean of Fire. The race crossed many different places, including Syria, Damascus, and Iraq; but then again, it was 3000 miles long!
3000 miles. Three thousand miles is a very long distance, even for an endurance or long distance race. Since it was over deserts, that made it even harder.

Senator. Senator is a big fancy thoroughbred, and his owner voices his opinion about mustangs in the bar. "Mustangs don't belong in races with thoroughbreds. If you ask me, they belong in fertilizer." How rude!

Running out of food. Frank endures these hardships and some others. He survives all of them, though. He outruns the sandstorm on Hidalgo and takes shelter in an abandoned building. During the swarm of locusts, he lays down on the ground with Hidalgo and covers them both with a blanket. Frank (and Hidalgo) eat some of the locusts! Unfortunately, they also fall into a trap. Frank is unharmed, but Hidalgo gets a spear through his shoulder. The good part is Hidalgo survives!

5. To make all the horses look the same, a paint was made and then sprayed onto the other four horses by a person who was looking at the picture of the main horse. I believe the name of the main horse was Oscar. It didn't specify on the DVD, but I watched the news and they talked about it. Viggo Mortensen liked Oscar so much that he bought him!

Untamed. Lady Anne says this after Frank tells her Hidalgo's breed. Frank said, "That's right." The mustangs were brought over by the Spanish and ended up running wild out west.

Hokshelato. Frank's grandmother named him Hokshelato, as she was a Sioux. Frank doesn't say why she named him this, he simply says that she did.

Shunka Wakan. Even though shunka wakan is the Sioux word for horse, it actually means big dog. When the Indians saw the horses, they didn't know what they were. So, the Indians ended up calling them big dogs.
