Five Easy Pieces. "Five Easy Pieces" came out in 1970. Jack played a talented man who couldn't find his place in our world. He was a classic troublemaker. "Five Easy Pieces" was Jack's second Oscar nomination. He lost to George C. Scott, who won for "Patton".
The Last Detail. In 1973, "The Last Detail" hit movie theaters. Jack and his partner had to transport a prisoner, played by Randy Quaid, from Virginia to Maine. They met a few bumps on the way. It was the third Oscar nomination for Jack and he still didn't win! The other Jack won; Jack Lemmon for "Save The Tiger".
Chinatown. Jack's forth nomination (third for Best Actor) was directed by Academy Award winning Roman Polanski. In this movie Jack played a P.I. investigating people who were cheating elderly people of their land. Also, in the movie it was Roman Polanski who held a real knife to Jack's nose.
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Finally! Jack wins his first Oscar for Best Actor playing a mental patient who really isn't mental. Also, "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" is one of only a few movies to win the top five Oscars. It won Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture. The other two movies were "It Happened One Night" and "The Silence Of The Lambs". This is also where Michael Douglas won his first Oscar. He was one of the producers and accepted the Oscar for Best Picture.
Terms Of Endearment. Jack's seventh nomination and second win. He won for Best Supporting Actor. Shirley Maclaine won Best Actress. "Terms Of Endearment" also won Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director, James L. Brooks. This tear-jerker was about how a mother and daughter come to terms with their mistakes in life.
Prizzi's Honor. Mr. Nicholson's eighth nomination. He didn't win, but his co-star Anjelica Huston won for Best Supporting Actress. "Prizzi's Honor" was directed by her father, John Huston. He lost the Oscar to Sydney Pollack for "Out Of Africa". The movie was about a hitman who falls for a woman who's in the same business as he is.
A Few Good Men. Jack's tenth nomination. The year was 1992. Jack was a colonel who had ordered a "Code Red" on one of his marines. Great quote: Tom Cruise: "I want the truth!" Jack Nicholson: "You can't handle the truth!" Jack looked so great in that movie!
