Dan Devine. Dan Devine coached the Green Bay Packers for four seasons prior to coming to Notre Dame to replace Parseghian. He had a record at Notre Dame of 53-16, including a national championship in 1977. Devine was portrayed in the film by Chelcie Ross as a demanding coach who did not agree with Parseghian's decision to let Rudy play in one game. Parseghian was the coach the previous year.

He sacked the opposing quarterback.. A chant began in the crowd--a "Rudy" chant. Coach didn't want to put the kid in, but decided to anyways. After the sack, Rudy was carried off the field. We saw his mother and father cheering in the stands. Even Frank, the jealous brother, was cheering.
David Anspaugh. Anspaugh even admitted that he was inspired by the movie. David and Daniel met in real life, with Anspaugh performing an emotional interview. Anspaugh also did some directing on the hit show "Hill Street Blues" and the movie, "Hoosiers".
