Shrek the Third
|Shrek, Donkey, Puss In Boots and Artie are walking back to Far Far Away (because the ship they had arrived in crashed). After being attacked by some of Charming's henchmen (henchtrees?) they decide that a faster return is needed. Artie suggests getting help from his retired magic teacher. What is his name?||"Shrek the Third" Part One
Merlin. In the movie Merlin is a rather eccentric soul who has lost confidence in his ability to perform magic. He insists on a bit of soul searching and communication before agreeing to help out the friends with a bit of magic that he isn't sure will work...at least not without side effects.
Merlin was the name of the wizard who trained the young Arthur, according to legend, and who continued to advise him after he became King of all of Britain.
Merlin was voiced by the very funny Eric Idle.
|The castle is stormed when the princesses and the queen are at Fiona's baby shower. Fiona leads them through a secret passage and out into the streets. Which princess actually turns out to be in cahoots with Prince Charming, and leads the others right into his trap?||"Shrek the Third" Part One
Rapunzel. After the girls escape from the passages under the castle, Rapunzel runs ahead, calling for the rest of them to follow her. They go through a door where Charming and some of his henchmen are waiting to capture them. Charming and Rapunzel kiss and he tells everyone that she is going to be the next Queen of Far Far Away.
Rapunzel is voiced by Maya Rudolph.
|When we first see Prince Charming, he is acting, rather badly in a play, to poor reviews from the audience. He is distraught that he never got his 'happily ever after' and decides that he deserves to be the King of Far Far Away. He concocts a plan to seize control of the kingdom. Who helps him?||"Shrek the Third" Part One
the evil fairy tale characters. Charming goes into the inn where he is not warmly received by the patrons. He whips up support by appealing to the fact that they, as the villains of their stories, never got a chance at their happy endings. So Charming is able to storm the kingdom, with the help of characters like Captain Hook, and the Evil Queen from 'Snow White'.
Prince Charming is voiced by Rupert Everett.
|In Far Far Away, the other princesses are giving Fiona a baby shower. What gift does Snow White give her?||"Shrek the Third" Part One
a dwarf. Fiona opens the box to find a dwarf wearing a bonnet. When she asks what it is, Snow White informs her that it's a babysitter and the dwarf says 'Where's the baby?' When Fiona announces that she can't accept the gift, Snow White assures her that it's alright because she has six more at home.
Snow White is voice by Amy Poehler.
|Artie is smaller than a lot of the other kids, and is the target of a lot of bullying and practical jokes. What is the name of the boy who seems to be the leader of the bullies, who was first seen beating Artie at jousting?||"Shrek the Third" Part One
Lancelot. Arthur Pendragon was the name of the legendary King Arthur, he who pulled the sword from the stone to be King of Britain. Lancelot was his first knight, who swore allegiance to Arthur but also fell in love with Arthur's Queen, Guinevere. It is an interesting twist to have these two be rivals in high school, only with Lancelot having the upper hand.
Lancelot is voiced by John Krasinski.
at high school. Arthur Pendragon, or Artie as he prefers to be called, is engaged in a jousting match, which he subsequently loses, when they track him down. When they first walk through the school's gates, Shrek comments that his hands are sweaty and his stomach hurts, so it must be high school. The Medieval Cheerleaders are amusing, as is the girl who asks Shrek to be her girlfriend's date.
Arthur is voiced by Justin Timberlake, who was dating Cameron Diaz at the time the movie was made. Ironically, they broke up before the movie's release.
ogre babies. In his dream the ship takes Shrek back to the swamp. When he goes into his house looking for Fiona, he finds a baby in a carriage. The babies begin to multiply, as Shrek desperately tries to look after them and keep them safe from harm. Before long there are literally hundreds of ogre babies in the small house and Shrek is going crazy.
|When Shrek is leaving on the ship, Fiona is trying to tell him something but can't find the right words. She finally hollers her news as the ship is pulling away, having to repeat it a couple of times because the captain keeps blowing his horn. What is her news?||"Shrek the Third" Part One
She is pregnant.. Excited about accomplishing his goal, Shrek keeps telling Fiona that soon they will be back in the swamp, all by themselves. Fiona tries to tell him that there won't be just the two of them, but he doesn't get her meaning. She finally yells that she's pregnant, just as the ship is pulling away. The Queen's face lights up at this news, but Shrek's most decidedly does not.
Shrek. On his deathbed, just before he croaks, the King tells Shrek that he is next in line for the throne and will make a fine king. Shrek is not thrilled at the idea and is anxious to know if there is anyone else who could do the job. The King advises him of one other, and dies, after saying that he is sure that Shrek will do what is best.
The King is voiced by John Cleese.
They have to assume the King and Queen's duties, because the King is sick.. Shrek and Fiona are seen performing many royal functions, including the unsuccessful launching of a new ship and a rather painfully executed knighting. Unhappy in his new duties, Shrek is chafing to return to the swamp and Fiona keeps reassuring him that it's only a few more days until her father becomes well enough to resume his role of king.
Shrek is voiced by Mike Meyers, and Cameron Diaz again provides the voice of Fiona.
No. During the battle, Artie shows a natural ability to lead the people of Far Far Away, without resorting to violence. Content that they have left the kingdom in good hands, Shrek and Fiona return to the swamp, where they are blessed with three little ogre babies, who keep them hopping.
Artie. When Shrek was first arrested, he said some pretty mean things to Artie in order to protect him from the guards. Artie believed Shrek and left, angry and dejected. Donkey and Puss convinced him that Shrek had only been looking out for him.
So Artie returns in the middle of the onstage fighting and calls everyone to stop. He gives a stirring version of the speech that Shrek had given to him, about being who you knew you could be, and not who other people expected you to be. The fairy tale creatures, who have been working with Charming, take Artie's words to heart and abandon the fight, leaving Charming without his army.
|With Shrek captured and manacled, Charming's plans seem to be going well. Of course the good guys come to the rescue and a huge fight ensues. What amusing fact is revealed about Rapunzel?||"Shrek the Third" Part Two
She is bald.. Rapunzel, Rapunzel never gets a chance to let down her hair, but during the melee someone tries to swing on one of her long braids, dislodging her wig and revealing her baldness. This is just before the fašade of her tower falls down and she flees the stage.
killing him off in a play performed before the kingdom. It seems that Charming has taken a real liking to performing, even though his work is not widely appreciated. He plans an elaborate production, where he stages the rescue of a princess from the tower (possibly the rescue of Fiona from the first "Shrek" movie), only this time his new love, Rapunzel, plays the princess in the tower. Charming plans on having Shrek play the ogre and killing him during the play. While rehearsing for the show, before Shrek is captured, he accidentally kills two of the actors pretending to be Shrek, while searching for the most dramatic way to deliver the killing blow.
He is attached to strings like a real puppet.. Pinocchio is found in a little booth where people have to pay to see his one man puppet show. He tries to tell Shrek what's going on, but the curtain keeps falling so Shrek has to keep feeding $5 into the slot so he can talk to Pinocchio again. The money is found in a bag of coins, hidden in Puss In Boots' boot, that Donkey finds because he is wearing the boots.
|As Merlin predicts, there is a strange side effect after Shrek, Artie, Puss In Boots and Donkey are magically sent back to Far Far Away. What is it?||"Shrek the Third" Part Two
Donkey and Puss In Boots change bodies.. Of course both characters come off feeling that they are less good looking than before, and desperately want their own bodies back. Donkey feels exposed without pants and hates the stupid boots. Puss is unimpressed when Donkey's kids swarm him, thinking him to be their father. The funniest thing about the switch is when Puss In Boots tries to trick some guards with his big eyed, cute act but it just doesn't work with Donkey's face and buck teeth. The switch lasts until Merlin switches them back, at which time he does not manage to switch their tails.
Donkey is voiced by Eddie Murphy and Puss In Boots by Antonio Banderas.
|At one point Arthur, or Artie, decides that he doesn't want to be king. He angrily talks about how his father had more or less abandoned him because he wasn't any good. Shrek counters with his own story about how bad a father his dad had been. What did Shrek's dad do?||"Shrek the Third" Part Two
He tried to eat Shrek.. Shrek says that not much more could be expected from an ogre, and that he should have known something like that would happen, when his father kept covering him in barbecue sauce. Shrek advises Arthur to stop worrying about what other people expect of him, and to be who he knows he really can be instead. Arthur cedes that Shrek's father was worse than his own, and seems to feel better about himself after their talk.
Shrek reflects on his own advice, and realizes that is was why he doesn't want to become a dad, because he is afraid of being a poor dad like his father had been. He seems to take his own advice, accepting that he can be a nurturing, caring father.
|Once out of the dungeon, the princesses become mean fighting machines. Which princess sings a pretty song to call the birds and animals to her aid?||"Shrek the Third" Part Two
Snow White. Snow White executes a graceful little dance while singing, drawing the animals around her, much the same way that they gathered around her in the movie "Snow White". The guards watch in bemusement until she stops singing, when they find themselves being attacked by the princess and all her little creatures.
The Queen. The Queen bashes her head against the stone wall of their prison, breaking a huge hole through it. When Fiona looks shocked, the Queen comments that Fiona didn't get her fighting skills from her father. It is then pointed out that there is a second wall to break through and the Queen disposes of it in the same manner, but looks a little punch drunk afterwards.
The Queen is voiced by Julie Andrews.
|When they are imprisoned in the dungeon, Fiona finds out about Charming's plans for Shrek. She realizes that it is essential for them to break out and tries to rally the other girls to her cause. Snow White takes charge and says "Ladies, assume the position!" What are they doing?||"Shrek the Third" Part Two
They are waiting to be rescued.. The princesses all assume the positions they were in when rescued by their princes. Snow White lies down the same way that she did in her glass coffin, just before being kissed by her prince, and Sleeping Beauty goes to sleep. This is a funny comment on the traditional role of princesses, and women in general, in fairy tales. Fiona, however, has a much less passive role in mind.
