27 Directed by Mario Bava in 1960, what film originally made in Italian featured Barbara Steele in two roles - those of the main protagonist, Katia, and the vampiric antagonist, Asa Vadja?
Answer: Black Sunday

"Black Sunday" was popular and original upon its release in 1960 and soon became a cult classic vampire film. Made in black and white, the movie featured many memorable scenes and was actually censored in numerous countries. It has also been released under the names "Mark of Satan" and "Revenge of the Vampire".

In the film, a vampire's curse was unleashed as per a prophecy recalled by a local, castle-dwelling family. The vampire, Asa Vadja, sought vengeance on the townspeople and planned her return from the grave; she also bore an uncanny resemblance to the main character, Katia, who seemed to be a doppelganger of sorts.

This film was director Mario Bava's first screenplay though he had directed and done cinematography for Italian horror films for 20 years before "Black Sunday" (and he would do so 20 years after). Lead actress Barbara Steele got her start with the film; she'd later star in a series of European horrors from the 1960s.

Lon Chaney, Jr. played Alucard, Robert Paige was Frank Stanley, Louise Albutton was Kay Caldwell, Evelyn Ankers was Claire Caldwell, and Frank Craven was Prof. Harry Brewster. J. Edward Bromberg played Prof. Laszio, the movie's vampire expert. The debate still goes on today amongst fans of the film: Was Alucard actually Dracula, or was Alucard one of Dracula's descendants?

32 In which movie did Dracula lose his arms and legs, but he was still alive?
Answer: Andy Warhol's Dracula

In "Andy Warhol's Dracula" (aka "Blood for Dracula"), Mario (Joe Dallesandro) attacked Dracula (Udo Kier), removing his arms and legs with an ax, but Dracula was still alive, wiggling on the ground and hissing. (This was years before the same gag was used in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail".) Dracula had spent the movie romancing the Di Fiore sisters in search of virgin blood. By the time he drank virgin blood, the people found out he was a vampire. The three women he bit were possessed by him, but Mario, the handy man, was not possessed, and attacked Dracula.

34 In which movie was Dracula impaled on a cross?
Answer: Dracula Has Risen From the Grave (1968)

In the movie "Dracula Has Risen From the Grave" two priests went to the castle to make sure Dracula hadn't moved back into it. One priest stuck a large metal cross over the doors to the castle, because Dracula couldn't touch the cross without getting burned. The other priest stayed lower on the side of the mountain, but he cut himself on the jagged rocks, and some of his blood dripped through a crack in the ice, into the mouth of Dracula (Christopher Lee), who had been trapped and frozen in the ice in the previous movie. After Dracula was resurrected, he possessed the priest whose blood resurrected him and got him to help remove the cross from the doors and possess the niece of the other priest. When the cross was removed, it fell partially down the mountain with its pointy top sticking up. Later, Dracula had a fight with someone and fell from the castle onto the pointy top of the cross. Dracula's hands burned when he touched the cross to pull himself off of it. Dracula turned into a red dust.
35 The 1978 vampire film "Martin" was a significant independent addition to the genre directed by which filmmaker who was (perhaps) better-known for his zombie movies?
Answer: George A. Romero

George A. Romero (who made "Night of the Living Dead" in 1968) ended up creating this independent film from scratch in 1978 on a fairly meager budget. Starring mostly-unknown actors, the film followed a modern-day vampire named Martin as he struggled to keep his addiction hidden and live with new, distant members of his family. Oh... and his grand-uncle, Tada Cuda, was a vampire hunter.

The movie was somewhat of a step-forward for the genre. Since the dawning of vampire films in the early days of silent film, the vampire was the mysterious creature from somewhere far away. This was one of the first instances in which the vampire was so utterly 'human'. To be fair, Martin did remain awake during the day - it seemed that many of those supposed 'myths' about vampires were false (e.g. garlic didn't work against them).
36 Who played Van Helsing in Hammer's 1958 film "Dracula" (aka "Horror of Dracula"), which starred Christopher Lee as Dracula?
Answer: Peter Cushing

Dracula was back, younger and even more bloodthirsty, in "Dracula" (1958), which starred Christopher Lee as Dracula and Peter Cushing as Dr. Van Helsing. Dracula left his castle in pursuit of Jonathan Harker's fiancee, Ludy Holmwood, after Harker staked Dracula's bride. Only Harker's friend, Dr. Van Helsing, could help stop Dracula's reign of terror. "Dracula" was such a smash for Hammer, that Lee played the Count in six sequels. "Dracula, Prince of Darkness" (1966), "Dracula Has Risen From The Grave" (1968), "Taste the Blood of Dracula" (1969) and "Scars of Dracula" (1976) starred Lee as Dracula, and "Dracula AD 1972" and "Satanic Rites of Dracula" (1973) paired Lee with Cushing, as Van Helsing. Cushing also played Dr. Van Helsing in "The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires" (1974) without Christopher Lee.

42 "The Lost Boys" (1987) featured teenage vampires and teenage vampire hunters in which otherwise normal locale?
Answer: California

"The Lost Boys" clearly illustrated the direction of horror films in the 1980s. With a burgeoning teen-horror audience, Joel Schumacher's movie about acceptance, maturity, and vampires was a box office success and it resulted in a couple of DVD sequels about thirty years later (subtitled "The Tribe" and "The Thirst" respectively). The original featured two boys and their mother moving in with their grandfather in California; the eldest boy decided to hang around with the wrong crowd... of vampires.

The movie also featured Kiefer Sutherland in an early role as one of the main vampires as well as Corey Feldman, Corey Haim, and Dianne Wiest.

46 Who played a character who created a vampire in "Scream and Scream Again"?
Answer: Vincent Price

Dr. Browning (Vincent Price) was doing experiments to create genetically superior, super-strong people. One of these people, Keith (Michael Gothard), had escaped and began biting people and drinking their blood, like a vampire, to keep up his strength. The police caught him and handcuffed him to a car bumper, but he removed his hand and walked straight up a hill. When he got home, Dr. Browning destroyed the evidence by dissolving Keith in a vat of acid.

Vincent Price starred in many movies, including "Theatre of Blood", "Comedy of Terrors", "Tales of Terror", "The Tingler", "The Fly", "The Ten Commandments", and his voice was used in the song and video "Thriller".
47 What performer from "Superman Returns" played as Dracula in "Dracula" (1979)?
Answer: Frank Langella

Many Dracula movies, TV shows, and plays were made in 1979, but the one simply called "Dracula" starred Frank Langella in the title role. Advertised as a more romantic "Dracula" for adults, it primarily involved Dracula romancing Lucy Seward (Kate Nelligan). Eventually, Professor Abraham Van Helsing (Laurence Olivier) found Dracula on a ship bound for Romania and fought him.

Frank Langella appeared in various movies, including "The Twelve Chairs", "Lolita", "Junior", "Frost/Nixon", "Eddie", and "The Box".
48 What performer from "Child's Play" played a vampire in "Fright Night"?
Answer: Chris Sarandon

In "Fright Night" Chris Sarandon played the lead vampire, Jerry Dandridge, who moved next door to Charlie Brewster, a teenager who liked to watch vampire movies. Of course, nobody believed Charlie when he told people that he saw his vampire neighbor through the window biting a woman whose dead body turned up a few days later.

Chris Sarandon played another character who had problems with someone named Charles in "Child's Play" in which he (Detective Mike Norris) fought off a doll inhabited by the soul of killer Charles Lee Ray. Chris also appeared in the movies "Lipstick", "Dog Day Afternoon", and the TV movie "The Day Christ Died", playing Jesus.
49 In Kathryn Bigelow's "Near Dark" (1987), what happened to vampires who came into contact with sunlight?
Answer: They set ablaze

Although this vampire film (released in the same year as "The Lost Boys") was quite the original offering, it failed to meet box office expectations and bombed. Nevertheless, Bigelow's offering introduced a blood-thirsty vampire family traveling through the American mid-west feeding and avoiding the sun. Due to this film's western-genre influence, some of the more interesting scenes involved gunfights in which bullets weren't so much of a danger as the bulletholes leaking sunlight into their hiding spots. If exposed to sun, the vampires would set on fire.

Director Kathryn Bigelow later won Best Director and Best Picture for "The Hurt Locker" while actor Adrian Pasdar starred on TV's "Heroes".
50 After being evicted from Castle Dracula to make way for the Romanian gymnastic team, Count Dracula (George Hamilton) emigrated to New York City in pursuit of his true love, Cindy Sondheim (Susan Saint James), in what 1979 spoof?
Answer: Love At First Bite

Dracula got no respect in modern Transylvania. The villagers were not in the slightest in awe of him anymore, and the Romanian gymnastic team had taken over Castle Dracula. What better solution for a homeless, love-sick Dracula than to head to New York City in search of his true love, supermodel Cindy Sondheim? In this truly funny spoof (a sort of "Dracula-lite"), George Hamilton did a wonderful take on Bela Lugosi's Count, proved that Dracula could disco with the best of them, and set about winning the heart of his lady fair, in "Love At First Bite". One of the film's best scenes was when Dracula was trading quips with Dr. Jeffrey Rosenberg (a descendant of Van Helsing) played by Richard Benjamin. Susan Saint James was Cindy Sondheim, and Arte Johnson just about stole the show as a wonderfully mad Renfield.
