Earth, Wind and Fire
Maurice White. Maurice White, a one-time member of the Ramsey Lewis Trio, founded the band in 1969. After a move out to L. A. from Chicago, he added his brother Verdine and several others to the lineup. Philip Bailey joined up in 1971 after the release of the group's debut album the previous year.

"Shining Star". Although the group had eight songs climb to the top of the R&B chart, "Shining Star" was EWF's only pop chart-topper. It appeared on the triple platinum album "That's The Way Of The World" in 1975.
Salty Peppers. Originally, Maurice White started the band in Chicago and hired Wade Flemons and Don Whitehead to make up the original lineup in 1969. The original group was popular locally, recording commercial jingles and a song that received some regional success. When a second single faltered, Maurice moved out to LA and coaxed his brother Verdine to join him.

Philip Bailey. Philip Bailey was born in Denver but moved to Chicago, where he fronted many local bands. His falsetto vocals added a new dimension to EWF and made their sound more pop-oriented. Still with the band, Bailey also recorded ten solo albums and scored a huge hit called "Easy Lover" with Phil Collins in 1984.
Phenix Horns. The four members of the Phenix Horns included Don Myrick, Louis Satterfield, Rahmlee Michael Davis and Michael Harris. They have also backed up many popular solo artists. Leader and founder Myrick was shot and killed in 1993, when police entered his apartment (they had a search warrant) looking for drugs and thought that the barbeque grill starter Myrick held in his hands was a gun. Louis Satterfield died in 2004.
